I'm currently painting a Keeper of Secrets, and have been tinkering with inks and white paint for hours now. The problem is, either it looks very flat (shading not prominent enough), very contrasted or just very messy and ugly.
How do you get properly textured white? Any suggestions would be very welcome.
The key to painting white is NOT to paint white only. As the above tutorial mentions, it's a very light grey with white highlights. It's the play between shadow and light that makes white look realistic.

shade up from grey. then about 6 watered (very) down coats of white
