i'd like pistoliers, but i niether like the models, or how much they cost. other armies i've look at have fast calv models, but are just as expensive. as long as i'm gonna have to do a converstion, is there any army that has cheap fast calv? or even ways to make fast calv through heavy calv. right now i'll looking at using brettonian horses, using the mounted legs that comes in the soldier boxed set, and using militia and soldier waist up.
that's the thing about perfection, it can only get worse.
I've already done this. You'll need to buy some specific bitz off the internet.
First, you'll need the horses. You CANNOT find pistolier horses (why?), but they use the same horses as the horse-archers from the Kislevite section.
Second, you need to either save, or buy, the pistols and bodies+heads from a box of Empire Free Co.
Last of all, you'll need to get the most expensive individual bitz, you need the Pistolier legs.
Obviously, you use these parts to build you pistoliers. IT's great b/c you can pose them, and do really cool things with the plastic. They look kind-of rag-tag though because of the militia parts, but my fluff kind of called for that. Anyway, I built the regiment of 5 for 30$
Maybe not the best idea, but here goes: If you don't mind including Regiments of Renown/Dogs of War, you could just include Oglah Khan's wolfboyz... just convert from a plastic box of goblin wolf riders.
Otherwise, I would do what you were planning on and use the mounted legs from soldier boxes (if you have enough) and militia parts. But then you have to bitz order horses... make friends with the local store owner, and they should be able to do the bitz order for you (save you from shipping costs).
Hope that helps.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, even if it's wrong.
Unless you play Bretonnians or some other army that excludes Dogs of War, there is always DOW Light Cavalry. The heavy cav is around 17pts each if I remember correctly, so the DOW Light Cav must be very cheap.
To add, Calvary is not a unit of horsemen, it's the place where Jesus Christ was crucified and then entombed, if that's a word.
