 I'm wondering what kind of swords would do well for SM. I don't particularly like the chainsword, I prefer the cleaner cut of a blade. So I'm wondering, what kind of swords are out there which not only look good on a SM, but also are easy to cut away? Thanks. >_>

If you are looking to replace chainswords, I assume your looking for plastic swords - plain ones, not powerswords, to act as basic CCW.

In 40K, you wont find many basic plastic swords other than in the Catachan box.

Your best bet is to trawl the Warhammer ranges for sprues with plenty of weapons on them - or take plastic power swords and slice off the power bits.

There is a classic weapons sprue with a sword on it, but buying loads of those will be expensive.

The alternative is to use the knife that is in the standard marine box as all you are trying to show is that the guy is tooled up for close combat - and you cant get much closer than a knife!

You say you want regular swords that aren't power swords? I have a neat conversion idea that involves every converter's favorite activities (slight embelishment).

First, take the basic chainswords and carefully clip away the teeth. Then pick up a file and work it until you have an edge. It's delicate work, but you get something that looks like a rapier out of it.

The Chaos Warrior plastic box also has a very clean sword (without any Chaos related stuff on it) on the Chaos Space Marine Accessory Sprue.

If you buy the assault marine box youll notice you get a extra sprue of arms. Go to the fantasy section order some good looking swords there. Cut of the top part of the chainswords and replace it with the blade and voila new SM swords.

However with that statement out of the way, I would say listen to ArchonBjorn. He has a really good tendency to not say stupid things and give bad advice.

Try Felix's sword from Dogs of War. It is avaliable as a bit, probably 1.25 apiece, but it looks okay.

I was looking along the lines of the classic medieval swords, probably like Felix's. Maybe I'll try the Empire swords, if they look to scale on the marines.
