I have recently accquired a spawn of chaos for my BoC army...problem is...i have absolutley no idea on how to start painting it...
Any tips would be greatly appreciated....
You really can't go wrong with taking a base flesh color and blending it with reds and whites to get a raw skinless looking creature. If you are using an army dedicated to one of the chaos gods you can alwasy blend in that gods colors.
The cool aspect of chaos is anything can be possible. You can even think about doing a marriage of colors on different parts of the beast.

Well I haven't painted one (thinking of adding one to my 2k chaos list once I move up from 1000) but heres some ideas.
When you prime it (if you do) try giving a highlight of a dark flesh color to bring up the details so you know what is what. Also take a look at a picture thats already painted of one to give you some idea of what is muscle or bone. Yah and like above post say your spawn is of nurgle than paint it with some lairs of light green dry brushs in some bloody/muscle areas to give a sense of green blood and than paint some blood effects on with the same colours. Last point I can think of is you should try to blend the flesh colors with the bone colors and muscle etc... This way it looks like the body has been ripped apart and everythings still connected and as you paint outwards into parts that aren't closely connected with the original body you can start real painting some dark or bright contrasting colors to show a new body has formed. Lol now I want to paint a chaos spawn.
