Okay. Here is what I want to do.
Tau Hammerhead Tanks use special disks to mount their secondary weapons, namely Burst Cannons, or a Smart Missile System.
However, since you can take Gun Drones as an armoury option, and, logically, those little holders would make an EXCELLENT spot for Gun Drones. ( *cough* Devilfish *cough* )
Well, I want to use Gun Drones with my Hammerheads, so.... the problem is this.....
I need to find a place to mount the secondary Weapons, in a fashion that they wont look cheezy / dumb, and yet, still be able to maintain a logical 360' rotation for firing.
Here is a list of idea's ive come up with, and my reasons for dumping the idea.
1. Mount underneath between the Gun Drones, and Chin Turret.
Problem. The Weapons would be hard to see, if at all, and not very visually interesting.
2. Remove the side port doors, and mount vertically on sides.
Problem. Im afraid the Weapons would get in the way of Engine Rotation, and might bring up Fire Arc issues from WYSIWYG strict players.
3. Mount on top or Bottom of the Engines.
Problem. That would look dorky, and interfer with my plans on attaching a seeker missile mount on the engines.
4. Create a mount, sticking off the side of the main turret, where I can attach them.
Problem. This is my favorite idea so far, as I think it would look VERY COOL, however, im again worried about making it stick off to much from the turret, out of fear of the engine getting in the way. Also, this would be very hard to do, requiring ALOT of scratch building.
If anyone has any suggestion on how to make the turret mount, or any other ideas, it would be greatfully appriciated.
I've never considered adding gun drones to a Hammerhead, as you obviously pointed out, the Hammerhead has SMS or Burst Cannon "Pods" nested in the Drone slot.
What is the firing arc of SMS and BC on a Hammerhead? Is it treated like the side sponsons of a Predator or Leman Russ?
Ignoring WYSIWYG and Firing Arcs, you could put the missile ports on the rear deck of the Hammerhead, behind the turret, facing up. Assume that the "missile box" is inside the main body and just have the missile "points" exposed. This works as SMS don't require line of sight. These missiles would fire up and out of the Hammerhead several meters and then turn towards the target and lock on.
The rationale being, if I remember correctly, Fasa's Battletech game of a decade ago (yes, still alive today) had tanks with this "missile silo" style in order to keep a lower profile.
As for the Burst Cannons, I think I'd go for putting them under the front wing between the Drone racks and the center sensor array. Convert the Burst Cannons to make it appear that their partially embedded in the wing and not just "strapped" on. The cannon barrels should stick out enough to still look good.

Both Hammerhead secondary weapons have a full circle 360' firing arc.
Okay, I should point something out here.... I plan on having my HH put together using Magnets, so that I can swap out Burst Cannons for Missile Pods or vise versa.
Thanks for the idea though about the Missiles. Your right about the Battletech thing.
On most of my hammerheads, I have the landing struts removed, leaving only the pads directly underneath, to indicate a Railhead in flight.
What I'm getting to is this: If you have the struts up, then the spot in front of the rear two pads, the one with a double indentation, would also be a masterful place to mount a pair of magnets, from which you could feasibly hang the Hammerhead Weapon Mounts. Likewise, that general area would also work for the previously mentioned Seekers.
If you're supposed to be a Goth, where were you when we sacked Rome?
