I saw that article on Cadian rough riders mounted on bikes on GW, but since I'm not one to get in a lot of work, I'd like to know the following:
Is it possible to use Space Marine assault bikes (of course mounted by a Guardsman) as IG rough riders? This goes for both rules as convertability.
I don't really think it would work. Space Marine bikes are big, bulky machines designed to carry big, bulky Marines in heavy ceramite armour. Marines are greatly stronger the guardsmen,so manuevering such a machine is no problem for them. Stick a guardsmen on one'a those monsters though and he looks out of place to say the least. The things far too large for him to handle effectively, and if he where to wreck it,the wieght of it is enough to crush the poor man.
And wreck it they will, knowing my dice. Hurrr </3
Any other suggestions then?
You /might/ get away with using ork bikes (blasphemy, I know!. But they are smaller, and minus the twin-linked big shoota on the back it kind of looks like a four-wheeled ATV to me.
Besides, that way you can still model your riders with lances, or laspistols and close combat weapons. And I think that the guardsmen size shouldn't be too off, since the normal ork biker is smaller then the normal boyz.
Anyway, there's my suggestion. I think they might wind up being cheaper then using space marine bikes anyway.

the classic roughrider conversion (atleast for catachan) is those dark elves lizards (cold ones?) anyway, I know that some of the catachan legs fit perfectly if you file them down a bit, then use a cadian body, would look fairly good. Just remember greenstuff is your friend. It will be a great help when making them look realistic.
Yeah, I've thought about the cold ones, but I came to the conclusion that those aren't really a good idea to an urban based regiment. Unless somebody could find a reason why BIG lizards are foun din a city, apart from a zoo.
Even if the bike might be a bit oversized, it is possible to mount a Space Marine Bike with an Imperial Guard figure. As Guardsman 173rd pointed out, some of the Catachan legs will fit Cold Ones, and likewise they will fit a Space Marine bike with little work.
Think also of Judge Dredd... the Mega-City 1 Lawmaster bike was a large beast but the Judges looked really cool on them
NOTE: This topic should have been posted in the 'Conversion' forum.

Yeah, it started out as a rules question, but then someone said that it wasn't a great idea. Then it turned into a conversion matter.
you might be able to find a WWII bike kit, I saw one in 1/35 scale (which I think is about right, but check the Scale thread).
I dont know the price of these WWII models, but it might be worth looking into.
What about Scout Bikers? I haven't played against an IG army in a long time, but aren't Scouts about the same size as Guardsmen? If the Guardsmen were buffed up specially to become Bikers, essentially they would be fine, right?
