Welcome to Librarium Online!
Would it work good if i glued everything but the gun on??? I'm talking about guns that go across their chests.
That realy depends on your painting style, some people prefer the entire model to be assembled, others, in stages. If you left the guns of, you will be able to do the chest detail better, but then you have to be careful when you attach the guns that you don't ruin any of the detail you've already painted (like running glue). Also, you have to be able to paint the join well. Good luck with it,
If you were to leave the gun off you would want to make sure that there was an area on the hands as well as the gun that didn't get primed so that you could adhere it properly with plastic cement.
Also it isn't that much more difficult to paint with the gun in place. If you are worried about ease of painting you may want to consider temporarily putting the arms in place (with blue tac or something similar) then gluing the gun in place. When dry remove the arms completely and paint them separate from the body. This way it would be easier to mask off the arm connections and paint everything up then glue the arms into position. Also touch up around the arms would be easier to get to.

like the two above, it really depends on your style of painting. i personally find it easier to prime everything separately, then attach the legs and body together. then paint everything and then when its all done glue it together.
All it really depends on is how detailed you are planning on painting them. The fist time I painted a squad of marines I primered everything separately and it was just too much work and didn’t work out too well. I find that gluing the gun on last is the best way, that way you could paint the chest and it looks a lot better.
Have some of the guys without the boltguns across their chests and wield them one-handed instead.
Relatively simple and a great introduction to converting your models.

yeah I'm planning on doing that as well but what do you do with the other hand? It is cupped to hold a gun and looks stupid it its empty.
Personnaly, I paint all my models completely before assembly, and when I do assemble I do it piece by piece. A trick with assembly that I do (you might already know ) with my FWs is to glue on the arm that SUPPORTS the gun first, then I glue on the gun arm, that way the gun shouldn't slowly rotate downwards!!!
things to do with the open handOriginally Posted by Reverend
-cut of the fingers and glue them on so the hand is totally open, in a "bring it on" matrix pose
-put a spare mag/grenade/trophy/knife etc in the hand.
put the gun in the open hand, and have him waving his fist in the air.
find a spare fist and do a hand swap
Thanks for the help guys. I glued everything but the gun on and it worked perfectly. I will also try some of your tips in the future. I thought the bolter had to be in 2 hands.
