Ok, for those who don't know I have begun a new SM chapter of my own (my old one being Blood Angels); so I need colours for the chapter. I will be updating the thread with different versions of my tests but I'd like outside input. But first a few things you'll notice;
The marines (ten in total) are in fact an Assault squad without jump packs or close combat weapons, this is because I used the CCWs and a tactical squad to create a vet squad for my BAs and the JPs when to my death company. So I've got a squad on foot, running with bolters. ^_^
The base I won't do until I'm happy with the marine's colours; the shoulder guard isn't just going to be orange. I was just thinking of a company colour to put on the edge to see how I prefer it, others may get that in seperate places.
His actual colours was inspired by a diorama I saw in the Eldar/Dark Eldar collectors guide; a talos was attacking two SMs. I liked the look of the armour and tried to replicate it; to a degree.
Anyways.. the pic; constructive feedback most welcome.
Its okay i guess, but theres too many different and contrasting colours on one model... i think you should stick with 2 main colours, and put them on different areas (or do halves!!)
Too many colours? How so? I have two primary; Blue and the cream. The secondary (orange) as I said was a test on company marking, I may do the next with a red or white. How do you mean different areas? It is on different areas.
Maybe try the orange as white. And they look more like they're tip-toeing than running. You might have to pin the legs.
I realize that this is a color scheme test, so I won't talk about the paintjob itself. The dark blue and cream just don't quite look right to me... It looks cool, yet wierd at the same time. You might have to replace either the cream or the blue with a different color so that the two go together better. I don't think blue and cream go together on a Space Marine.
No i dont agree with that i just think the areas you have put them on are wierd.... I think if you did the cream on the shoulder pads backpack and head and restricted it to that it would look good but this looks.... odd.
Wow... people hate the cream and blue, hmm....
Anyways, what would you suggest I replace the colours with then? And feel free to comment on the paint job, I'm usually a Fantasy painter and haven't painted a SM in ages (over a year I think). So feel free.
thesalamander - It may look slightly odd, but isn't it the point to make the army stand out? As I said it's just a test, I have nine more to go through yet. I'll be testing different combos and areas to paint in.
Thanks for the comments.
I actually like those colors a lot. It looks unique and, to me, it goes together well.
I like the colors, even the orange. I think I would prefer red trim instead of orange but orange is OK.
However, I don't like the cream on the shoes and knee pads. It looks like a pair of blue jeans with white converse tennis shoes and worn knees. Maybe its just me... I could live with the white knee pads if they had a orange/red/whatever trim color symbol on them to break up the white, but the shoes just look too much like sneakers and jeans for me I'd keep the shoes blue.
not bad, maybe they need a bit more touchup but it's a test after all.
if you look into the codeci, or at least the space marines one, they picture a system of identification using colored trims on the shoulderpads and kneepads. so why not an orange band for one.
maybe try to make the kneepads a bit more profound in color.
think there is a small problem with the picture. guess you need to use less lighting or point the flash away. or modify the intensity a bit.
