i just ordered a bag of rare earth magnets, 6mm x 2mm with a 2lb pull, and i was wondering if anyone else uses them.
i'm buying 2 eldar falcons and 2 eldar vypers. each of them has 5 possible weapons to choose from.
i thought it would be a good idea to use magnets on them for use in different roles.
i'm going to place them in my wraithlord's also for the same effect.
some people argue that vypers and falcons only have one or two good weapons but hey, i think it would be kool to be abe to swap them.
so the question stands....any one use magnets??
I've though about it a few times, for Dreadnought arms, Predator turrets and sponsons, etc..., but I've never actually done it.
Another good idea is to attach them to the bottom of the bases, and line your transport box dealie with some cheap metal. That way they don't move during transport. It's a bit cheaper than buying one of the foam instert cases. And then you can stick them on the fridge, too.
I've used them on all of my Crisis suits, I can put any weapon on any suit now. I mounted them in the wrists, and on each gun. There is an article on here somewhere about using them for Tau. I definetly recommend it, you have total freedom then.
Lower/Lesser rating always ships first!
The esteemed Tonya Tau has composed a 'how-to' on this very subject :

Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?
Hard Aun...it says I don't have permission to acces the site...any tips?

I can't access it either.
I really want to know how you would magnet the side sponsons on a Predator. Looks like there's no place for them! Dreadnoughts are easy though.
I absolutely love the rare earth magnets. I would suggest kjmagnetics.com as i have found they have the cheapest prices around. I got 100 1/8 X 1/16 for $7.50 us. 7.5 cents per magnet is pretty good. They also carry a 1/16 X 1/16 magnet that is really neat as well.
I have used the smaller ones soley for my plastic minis, such as my orks - slugga and shoota boys at any time i want - (Please don't tell me not to use shoota boys, i just want the option to suck if i want to).
I also have worked on my wraithlord and plan on using them on my falcon, vyper and other hvy weapons as well.
I had some trouble with the eldar heavy grav platform as the place where the weapon links to the chasis , the tip of the weapon wants to sag, i got some larger magnets that i hope will take care of it.
I have also used them on my hvy weapons squad and special weapons guys for my cadians. Now i can have grenade launchers, flamethrowers, and plasma and melta when i get around to it. The heavy weapons i am very proud of as i can field any combo of the five weapons i want. I used almost 20 magnets on that one, but it is worth it.
Recently i just got done with my sentinels, putting the magent where the legs meet the chasis so it can turn a bit. Its pretty neat if i do say so myself. I also added them to my chimera, allowing me to have smoke launchers, and flamers, hvy bolters, and different turret guns.
Its really not hard to use the magnets. I just use my big cordless drill and my 1/16 and 1/8 bit. Sometimes i use superglue and sometimes i don't if it fits well. Just be sure to make sure they are polarized right before you glue! Nothings worse than putting your guy all together and find out the magnets won't stick.
I like to put the magnet in and dab a bit of glue over it. I haven't had any problems with the magnets not sticking, and you can paint straight over it.
As expensive as this hobby is, i think magnets are a great way to maximize your investment. Instead of buying 5 boxes of hvy weapons squad for my cadians, i only need the one box of three - granted i know many of you wont do that anyway, but you get the idea.
Magnets are easy, and fun, and you can do it to - cheesy wink - !
And for those of us who live on the eastern side of the Atlantic...
SuperMagnete.De, site in German, but should be rather more accessible after digging through the FAQ link provided.
Also, in all likelihood some of Your local hobby, electronics or hardware stores stock on this stuff, so check around!(Y)
