Anyone know anything fluffy about tyranid "buildings?" I'm assuming as they move across a planet they're taking over they create some kind of support structures... breeding vats, DNA digestors, defensive emplacements, hive mind relays, stuff like that? Every other race gets some kind of special scenery, like tombs or bunkers or watchtowers or whatever, so it'd be nice to be able to build some stuff that says "Welcome to Tyranid country." That and I want to build some stuff that would give my guys some cover...
Capillary towers are the classic ones.. they're just big, chitinous towers which will eventually grow into space and allow material to be transported up to the hive ships.
But if you imagine it would look cool with Tyranids, I'd say do it. All the ideas you've suggested are cool.. Maybe things like genestealer nests, digestive acid pools etc as well.
Just try not to make them look too much like 'buildings.' They're not, they're living organisms.
Tyranids don’t really have buildings, they have no need in them, they don’t stay anywhere long enough. They attack a planet, consume everything, then return to their Hive Ships where they are ‘fed’ to the Nom-Queen who breaks the creatures down using its genetic shredder organs. The dissembled DNA structures form a gene-bank, which provides the raw material to form new creatures. Next the Hive Ships come down and using giant feeding tentacles they ‘drink’ the planets atmosphere dry. Then when all is dead, they move to the next feed ground…
The only ‘buildings’ that have been mentioned (that I’ve read) are Spore Chimneys and Capillary Towers (avalible from Forge World at a silly price: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog...RANIDS_13.html
“The Spore Chimneys pollute the planets atmosphere by releasing billions of spores which are absorbed by the local flora and fauna with devastating results. Imperial fire teams have learned that shooting these structures can cause a large spontaneous release of spores into the air.
And “Tyranid Capillary towers are used by the Tyranids to aid the consumption of biomass from the planet. (I assume they ‘eat’ all the earth and soil etc)
But if u want to add some Tyranid cover to ur board and cant afford to buy it and don’t have the experience to build a chimney or towers, u can always make TYRANID MYCETIC SPORE which are giant pods the bigger Bio Constructs come in: (Games-Workshop guide here: http://uk.games-workshop.com/tyranids/mycetic%2Dspore/ (but personally I recon that’s dog ugly so a variation of ur own is prob better)
The other option is to litter the board with smaller spores from other creatures. I’ve seen a Wallnut cracked open (carefully) and painted green makes a good capsule for a warrior to have arrived in. If u have loads of them in one place u could blag ur way to havin a tyranid 'forest'. If ur opponent agrees u could say that all these capsules have given off loads of gases etc so u cant see through them properly. Or u could use something like a Lemon for a large pod with some ‘modifications’ (their lumpy skin makes for lovely texture) half buried in mud or something and maybe have tentacles coming off (modelling clay can be used rolled into a sausage and modeled)
Just have some fun with it. Granted ur pretty limited to wat u can have but there is nothing to say wat a tyranid transport capsule thing looks like.
Hope that’s some help
