    Buying Paint...

Hey all, was just wondering if gamesworkshop's paint was really worth it to buy it or is there any other paint less expensive and just as good or better that i can get. Because i dont think spend 5$ per little pot is really worth it.

5 dollars?? :o thats expensive...its £1.75 per pot in the UK- although the pot sizes keep shrinking year by year

I've used different brands with varying success, although i always come back to GW colours, ive heard Vallejo are good (is that how you spell it?)

I really like the GW colors, and the metallics are $3.50 around here, while the normal colors are $2.50. I dunno why the heck yours would be $5, but the 'little pots' do last quite a long time.

I think he means $5 per pot as in like vallejo colors and other higher-quality brands.

GW colors are fine, I use them all the time. You just have to thin them down a lot.

They are $3.95 U.S. before tax here (about $4.35 after tax).

Have you tried some 'Tester' brands?

Avoid the metallic flake (unless thats the look you are going for in which case they are really bright).

Personally I prefer the vallejo Game colors over the GW paint. Cost is about the same roughly $3.00 american per container, but the big benefit is the convenient eye dropper dispenser and in my opinion a better pigmented paint. The game color range also mimics the GW paint range so it is easy to get GW formulations using the vallejo paint.

The vallejo game color paints are pretty much available from most major hobby oriented websites as well as the larger game/hobby stores.

    Cheers,

As long as you buy water-based acrylic paints then you can't go far wrong. I use a mixed bag of GW and Ral Partha paints. Thin your paints (no too much) with some Future Floor Wax and a pot of paint can last a very long time. I have some Ral Partha paints that I use that are probably older than you are!

wow i thought we were getting it rough with £1.75 a pot
they used to be 1.50, but they made the pots smaller and the cost higher
but still i like the gamesworkshop paints find they work fine and last a fair amount of time
