This thread is an offshoot of the question posed of me when asked if all my combat patrol minis would be Golden Demon quality.
My response to that question was "no". My reasoning is as follows.
The technique I've pretty well perfected is going to result in minis painted to excellent tabletop quality. It's going to do it in a very short period of time as well. Typically I can paint a character mini in about an hour. I have done a few projects where I decided to try to be more elaborate with the painting, attempting to carefully blend the highlights add subtle detail etc... These minis took substntially longer for me to paint and honestly the time wasn't worth it to me. They look good, but the difference between a 1 hour paintjob and a 1 weekend paintjob is almost negligible.
One of each of the following minis pictured took 1hour, 1 day, and 1 weekend.
The time is per mini, except the diorama which is for the whole thing.
I'll post the answer on Sat.

Nice paint jobs... Psst your modles are black! so hard! No they are good. Thats table top quality above average ya... Thats about my painting skill. Than again I don't take time on my modles. Don't know all thetechniques like NNM? I know 90percent and can do it pretty good but a...
i apint night goblins 1hour a peice of good.
tired typeing bye...
There pretty good but i dont think that you have perfected some of your techniques.Yes its abit above table top quality. The diorama is impressive though.I really like that and think that by far that is the best painting out of the three.
Once you've mastered a few techniques then you'll see a substantial difference in quality...

Of course you have to consider what look I like for my minis. I like muted colors. I don't typically like black lined minis as they look too cartoonish to me. I really dislike most NMM stuff I have seen.
As far as mastering my techniques, the techniques I use to produce the majority of my paintjobs, I have mastered. I wouldn't be able to crank out 10 man squads in an evening of above average quality work otherwise. The techniques I use produce excellent results for the ammount of time that they consume. To get noticably better results I have to spend exponentially more time, which honestly, I don't have, and if I ever want my 'nids finished, speed is going to have to be the name of the game. Otherwise, by the time the painting is done, the next edition of the 'dex will be out and the list that everything is modeled on will no longer work.
The pictures really don't do justice to the 3 IG minis, and definitely don't do justice to the highlighting and face of the marine. The lighting was giving me fits and I had to manipulate the color of the image a decent bit on those two to get the details to even show at all.
Take two on the Marine using natural light:

These pictures are much better.

Maybe I'm confused. Are you asking us to guess which took the alotted times? Or are you simply bragging about how well you can paint, or that you can paint well quickly?
In any event, I admit they look good FOR AN HOUR'S WORK, but to be honest, they don't really impress me. Most of your highlighting is done via drybrushing, you use all dark colors which often are just highlighted up from a black basecoat, and many times you haven't even gotten a clean coat of paint over the black basecoat, anyway. To brag about how awesome they are for an hour's work is like bragging that you can paint a Necron warrior in 10 minutes. Well, if by paint you mean, starting from a black basecoat, you can drybrush boltgun metal over a necron and then glue on the green rod in 10 minutes, what does that prove?
As far as the " above average work" self- rating, again, you may be overstating things. I would charge you to post them on coolminiornot.com and see what your rating is. I would doubt that you break 5.0 (average). That's not a flame, but just an honest appraisal.
I'm not trying to be mean here, but it seems to me that the whole point of this post is to toot your own horn. I'm just not in to self-aggrandizement.
Marion: You're not the man I knew ten years ago.
Indiana: It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage.
For the last time, there are
NO FEMALE SPACE MARINES!!!!!
The models look fine to me.
I am a person who paints my models to a gaming tandard only. I enjoy 40k, I don't particularly enjoy painting. I only paint figures at all because it is required to make my figures look reasonable and recognisable when playing.
I have never judged players on their painting skills, I would rather judge them on their tactical skills.
As far as I am concerned, Painting is for painters, playing is for players. If you happen to be both thats excellent, but I don't care how a persons army looks, I just care about playing the game.
I'm more concerned about reasonable looking scenery than I am an awesome painted army.

That guardsman with your HSO looks like he just **** his pants. Is he staring at a lictor that just popped out of the woods in front of him or something? Truly that is one funny look on his face and I really like it. :p
Yeah, the expression on that guy's face is hilarious.
I dunno, you do a pretty good job for 1 hour's work I guess. I spend way too much time painting, but that's because I'm excruciatingly slow.
What are some techniques to speed it up? I want to finish my army before 6th ed comes out.
Yeah i agree what do you want us to do or say?Like do you want us to rate them for an hours work?At first i thought that they were pretty good for an hours work but actually the more i look at them they really arent all that good,no offense or anything.Originally Posted by RJSuperfreakyStop showing off Gareth we now your a great painter, jks .Originally Posted by Gareth
