Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, first thing-I am a huge Firefly fan. Also a big fan of the Reavers in the series. Well, as a concept, really. So, I was reading a discussion involving them on the Serenity movie forums, and the idea crossed my mind.
'Hey, why not try a Reaver army, based off of the Dark Eldar?'
For those of you who don't know about Firefly (Which is a damn shame, really. Head over to your local video store and rent the DVD set), the Reavers are bands of men who travelled to the edge of the galaxy and went insane, and now roam around killing, maiming and torturing. Zoe's quote in the pilot sums them up quite well: 'If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And, if we're very lucky, they'll do it in that order.'
Quite Dark Eldar-don't you think?
Anyways, what do you think would make good models for converting to Reavers? Physically, they don't wear armour or anything (As far as has been told, and, even if they did, it'd just be light flack vests and such), and have desecrated their flesh-wicked piercings, arcane scars and the like. They use beat-up old ships and such-either really old and out of repair, or savagely attacked and looted.
Personally, for making basic Reavers, I'd combine Chaos, Catachan, Dark Eldar and Cadian sprues. Cadian legs and Catachan torsoes, probably, with a combination of mutated Chaos, Catachan and Dark Eldar arms. Dark Eldar weapons look wicked and dangerous enough to be Reaver-worthy. For their clothes, they'd be a patchwork of fabric and skin from their unlucky victims. Heads would be Chaos, Chaos Mutated (Maybe) and Dark Eldar heads.
For converting their various skiffs, I'd start with the existing Dark Eldar skiffs, but beat the snot out of them-battered and missing chunks of armour, making the things held together by duct tape and sheer force of will. Adding on parts from other models-an engine from a Marine Landspeeder here, a Tau gun there, ect, would make them look ramshackle. Finally, loading them up with trophy racks and spikes, and maybe the odd chunk of skin stretched over the hull for decoration.
Anyways, I doubt that I'll ever build this army, but the idea's out there for anybody, and, if the Dark Eldar finally get the rules update they so need, it might be worth a shot.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.
Member of the Canadian Clan, eh.
Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
I'm not sure that Reavers would use Dark Eldar type tactics.
They more remind me of Khornate warriors or Imperial Guard with the Warrior Weapons docterine. They seem 'happiest' when up close and personal.
You know I think the magnetic grapple was a dreadnought CCW glued to the side of the ship
lol it does look kinda similar
