I can't really decide on an army, so I've decided to go for a project (to basically make me decide on an army) and, since I'm an FFVIII fanboy, I decided on an army themed off of that particular game.
Now, I looked at both Balamb and Galbadia, but Balamb only really has SeeD, which would be too difficult to model, as they don't exactly have a uniform/soldier system.
So, I went for Galbadia, which has a common uniform around different colours, from what I can tell: Blue = normal trooper, Green = paratrooper, Red = officer.
Now. I am searching for a suitable model to start practicing on, and I've almost settled on Cadian models, with Catachan/other helmetless heads. I'd have to model the Galbadian helmet onto their heads with green stuff, and fiddle around with their shoulder pads, so the Cadian arms are, well, messy for me, because those shoulder pads are too big. Here's an example of a Galbadian trooper (upper body, paratrooper):
While we're on the subject, I'm also planning on modelling Seifer, Fuujin, and Rajin (as Commissars, most likely, but I need a better CC-based model for Seifer, at least .. any idea, keeping it legal in an army?). Now, for Seifer, I need to make a Gunblade. I was planning on doing this by cutting a Bolt Pistol (so it's still 40k-ish), and using one of the (many) 40k blades on some model, and cutting it appropriately and gluing/green stuffing it to the cut pistol.
However, now I need to figure out a way to 1) get his shirt and trenchcoat and 2) sculpt his hair! His hair shouldn't pose a huuuge difficulty, as long as I can find the right head for him.
Any suggestions as to which models to use as a base for Seifer, Fuujin, and Rajin?
Any and all help is appreciated, and please, if you have any suggestions for more FFVIII themes to include in the army, let me know!
Well, the trenchcoat won't be too big of a problem either. Remember, I put together 16 Kilts for my Kroot, and am going to put some on the stealths as soon as I find my Green stuff.
As for making the Galbadia IG, do you really have enough time/interest to pull that off? ^_^

Edit coming soon with some base models for characters ..
People, no help?
EDIT: Here's a picture of the models I had in mind as a "base" model for Seifer and Fuujin - the heads and the arms/hands would have to be cut and replaced, but like I said, they're base models:
Wow! great idea! I was thinking of doing something close to that. but...one thing led to another and I ended up not doing it. Which is just like me....anyway.
If you have an IG army you need vehicles. I think the spider-like thing that chased them around for the SeeD test would work for a sentinel. And you could always use that blue-tank-thingy which wouldn't die for a rhino tank....Sorry this is pretty vague...I havn't played the game in a while. Did Seifer work for Galbadia? I always thought he just ended up defending the queen lady... but don't listen to me. It might be odd but you could use Chocobos to represent Rough Riders. They would kind of work and you could always use the FB Steeds of Slaanesh for a base. And Moogles with Sniper rifles could always be Ratlings. But that is just getting absurd. Well that is all I have got for now...

Thanks, Silent, for the comment. ^_^
Seifer, I'm pretty sure, was Edea's "Knight" ... but, at one point or another, Edea had influence over Galbadian Garden, I believe, which is why Seifer would be in the army, "leading" so to speak, in her stead.
Now you've got my head working, though. I have to ask myself if I want this to be a "serious" themed army, or a "silly" themed army ... because I could simply do a "FF themed" army, and use lots of different characters from the FF's. But I think I might stick with it being serious for now.
hmm looking at trenchcoats- in the empire militia sprue there is an upper body with a trenchcoat (though i believe it may require some green stuff as it has a slit up the back). though that may be a bit small (i have noticed warhammer models tend to be a little smaller than 40k ones) just to add my two cents if the delaque juve idea doesnt work out.
the guy second from the right in the front rank has the trenchcoat on.
hmm... for the soliders arms... perhaps something not-entirely 100% accurate like eldar arms? they look kindof armoured.
maybe those from the empire knightly order (knight) sprue?
if those arms would make life easier with the troopers (although not cheaper).
of course, that would make for an expensive army! good idea though...
Apathy is its own reward...
here's another thought that came to me as i was thinking about different models to convert. you could use that same galbadia-theme towards different armies although i couldn't quite think of one where it went all together. the main armies that it could fuse would be witchhunters, daemonhunters, imperial guard, eldar, and tau.
inquisitor lord; using edea, just give psychic powers to reflect her abilities in ff8; you could include seifer, raajin, and fuuijin as henchmen of hers (her "knights"); adversely, seifer could play as the inquisitor lord, with melee in more focus than psyker abilities, and raajin and fuuijin are and would of course be two of his henchmen.
priest; if you want to include arcos and penitants than you'll one of these. maybe just some red galbadia officer; maybe with a little of a mech grease monkey look to him (as if he's the one maintaining what would be the arcos and penitants)
inquisitor; well if you used edea as your lord and didn't include seifer in her retinue, he can always be his own inquisitor with raajin and fuuijin in tow (ah, the like of a B character).
arcos; i guess you could use galbadia troops equipped with some sort of flaying contraption of the sort; or maybe robots of some design (bad guys in ff's always seem to have a bunch of those)
assassin; well if you didn't use seifer then, he can always be used now; and maybe show for more better combat ability, maybe in leiu of a callidus. OH, hey wasn't irvine also once of galbadia garden, well there's a vindicare. like-wise again if looking to use the other assassins i'm sure galbadia's military can come up with something to cover it.
inquisitorial stormtroopers; the cannonfodder blue soldiers of galbadia, and their rhino/chimera, Galbadia has those blue truck-like vehicles that always seem to be in every scene involving them. just be sure to make the veteran stormtroopers red. sadly though, they can't deepstrike in witchhunters, otherwise you'd have you're green paratroopers as well (guess we'll save that for the other armies)
heavy support -
penitant engines; here's a good spot for the galdabia spider contraption... or several of them. or some equally terrorizing galbadia mech.
orbital strike; and why else did galbadia take over that satallite dish in the beginning of the game... just to broadcast television, that's absurd... why of course it was call down an orbital strike from a galbadia space station... or i guess you could stretch and do like how they modified where all those monsters shot down from the moon.
daemonhunters (really most of it's repeated)
inquisitor lord; as above
grey knight hero; most of the grey knight stuff is me stretching. sufficed to say; this guy would be seifer, super-armored, i'm sure a trenchcoat would still fit over it.
daemonhosts; i wouldn't put it past galbadia to use monsters in an attack.
terminators; heavily-armed galbadia troops; definitely red
assassins; as above
grey knights; these guys could be used as your green paratroopers if used with teleport attack; either way better-armed galbadians than those inquisitorial stormtrooper ones
inquisitorial stormtroopers; as above, same with their transports; could use the land raider as that seemingly smashproof tank that follows squall around.
heavy support -
purgation; more galbadia heavy armor and weapons
orbital strike - as said above
side-note: i probably could have put the enthusiasm into that one as i had witchhunters and may well have if i had done dh before wh. but don't let that degradate using dh below wh. just depends on how you plan to play as galbadia (dh more concentrated on heavy troops of galbadian army while wh would be more into mechanical); besides for bother there's also the induction of either space marines or imperial guard which are both easy to turn into galbadians). OH OH OH, here's something, since really the imperial guard, wh, and dh don't have bike riders, you could use those space marine bikers (my favorite scene was the war between the two gardens and i remember galbadian soldiers on bikes making jumps onto balamb garden. and even then, you could use assault troops as green paratroopers.
imperial guard (i didn't realize i'd be writing even this much when i started, your topic just got me to thinking)
well, you pretty much have this one covered as your main idea so i'll just kinda skip this one.
tau (i know it's starting to be a stretch; eldar are worse of a stretch; and really true, my enthusiasm is dying after the burst on wh)
commander; more focused on galbadian military than edea or seifer; some super-mech guy
ethereal; well seifer could be used as an ethereal with an honor blade, although he might not be too great to be risking in melee (hopefully your opponent gets over the whole 'hey your tau just look like humans dressed up as them (which brought to mind that tau have hooves and not feet; oh well that's your concern) and they're not human mercs guev.... something...')
crisis battlesuits; super-heavy mech green paratroopers
stealthsuits; medium-not-as-heavy mech green paratroopers
fire warriors; all those blue cannonfodder galbadian soldiers just found a nice cubby to hole up in (although it'd be better if you could find/convert those tau helmets into have that diamond 4 red eyes and only covering the upper half of the face showing the galbadian's mouths like in the ame... i don't remember but that pic you posted shows that.
kroot; it always seems like a great idea to give the monsters they spawn weapons and run around rampant on the battlefield, maybe here it is...
...damn, i'll finish this later... i just got $hit-detail and picked to go up to the armory and clean weapons just arriving back here to oki from our deployment to fuji.... and i figured working hard during the day was enough for them.
...well 3 hours pass and i'm back
pretty much nothing left to add to tau, but i do think they're fire warriors and stealthsuits are outfitted at about the right amount for galbadians. it's about even between them or the inquisitorial stormtroopers (amazingly they're both the same about of points at that)
lastly... eldar (ff8 with pointy ears)
farseer; pretty much edea in her psyker/witch-ness
...if they ever come out with non special character pheonix lords or such combat hq, then one of those might be dandy for seifer, until then, you have your pick between the avatar (a momument to the power of seifer if you pull that one off) or just an exarch from one of the aspect squads
warlocks; if i can recall, there's part of the game where you're fighting in some fortress and there are all these other witches, well these can be those. (especially if you playing ulthwe)
warp spiders; again you have your green paratroopers with a little conversion
...the rest of the aspects are just specialist galbadians while the wraithguard robots
rangers; the rest of the sniper's in irvine's squad can and join in the name of galbadia and its garden
guardians; these might be able to pass for galbadian footpads
fast attack -
jetbikes/shining spears/vypers; all just galbadian footpads zipping around on hoverbikes (might want to make them look a bit more machine-ic and not as sleek
swooping hawks; possibly paratroopers again
heavy support -
just convert to galbadian heavy soldiers for reapers... wraithlord might require some thought... and workers... maybe look like a cross-between sentinels and war walkers...
those were just some of the thoughts i could come up with in short notice, hope they help or give you ideas on what direction to go and what's good to convert; do with it what you will....

The enforcers from necrmunda (sp) would be perfect since they have similar uniforms but the helmets, you might need to green stuff
The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"
Hear the wip, fear the Broadside.
