Hey guys. I was thinking of converting one of my IST's for my Daemonhunters army so that he is like killing a Tyranid or something like that. Any ideas on how I would do that? I am using the kasrkin models and would like to intimidate a Tyranid player friend of mine . Thanks.
It would be slightly harder with Tyranid models, but for a really simple-type conversion, you could always get a couple gaunt plastics, the kaskrin sergeant and a 40mm base. Take off the slot at the bottom, glue his feet to the base. Cut, prune, etc. So it seems that one Gaunt has fallen to the ground (headfirst). File or cut an exit wound. Next, model one so it is running (mouth open at hellpistol level) at the sergeant, so he's almost aiming his pistol right into it's mouth. Cut an exit wound in the back of the head, and if you have green stuff, maybe make some small blood strings coming out the back of it's head?
I've always enjoyed using the cadian plastics for my storm troopers. It's so much easier to convert.
If you want to try the plastic use the space marine sergeant's head in place of a cadian head. Model him stabbing his bayonet down into the gut of a gene stealer that's on it's back.
My blast template of S10 AP2 will toast all terminators.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to share my conversion idea to a fellow tyranid-hater :-)
I wanted to have my commander on a 40mm base (for display purposes), equip him with a plasma pistol and a power weapon. The plasma pistol would be pointing upward and out from his flank (like he's shooting at something in the air next to him), while the power weapon should be posed as though he had just swung it, and it was ending its swing.
Then I would drill a small hole into the end of the pistol, ad insert some fairly strong wire out about 4-6 inches. Coat the wire with green stuff (to represent the beam). If you've ever seen dragonball z, my plan was to model it like Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon.
Now take a tyranid, and alter the pose as though it were leaping through the air. Drill a hole the size of the beam straight through the tyranid's chest, and slide the tyranid onto the beam, gluing it into place (add smoke effects if you want hardcore detail). Paint the beam "plasma" colored or whatever. :-p
Now, for the second tyranid... pose it as though it's charging headlong into the enemy (i.e. normal pose :-)). Then, USE CAUTION... heat up a modeling knife or other cutting tool and cut the tyranid in half. Alternatively, you could simply saw the tyranid in half and apply heat to the bottom/top of the disconnected halves. This is to create a look to represent the power weapon having sliced the tyranid in half with its heat. Feel free to glue the lower part of the tyranid to the base at this point, taking care to paint in whatever internal organs a tyranid might have showing. Add green stuff to represent guts/ichor/acidic blood spurting from the lower torso.
Now take green stuff, and shape it and attach it to the swinging power weapon in such a way that it looks like a blood/ichor trail from the cut. Make sure you make at least one stream thick enough to support the upper half of the tyranid torso, which you will then attach to the blood/ichor trail coming off the power weapon (thus holding it to the model).
Now paint it all up! For an added bonus, use the ideas in one of the black gobbos for creating acid-damaged armor to show battle damage on the main figure. You can also make a shallow cut with a hobby knife on a patch of showing ski, and paint the cut red to give it a hardcore, "Ow I've been cut" look.
Lemme know what you think and how it turns out!
