Should i use Emire knights with scythes and those cool cloaked wood elf heads to make Vampire counts black knights or shold i use bret ones?? i think that the proper black knights look terrible and are WAY to expensive ($18 each?!?!)
also, do u reacon that saruman, a chaos wizard and perhaps nicodemus would make good necromancers (no actual necromancers! YAAY!)

As both an Empire player and a Vampire Counts player myself, I found that Empire Knights are better cos they are cheap, and you can convert them pretty easily. I modelled several arrows sticking out of their chests and shields. I only used helmets that covered the face completely, and my standard bearer and champion have no head, and my standard bearer has the arm holding a helmet. They are basecoated black, and then a heavy gold drybrush makes them look old and musty.
i think that empire would be good as sylvannia was originaly part of the empire and it would tie in with the heritage.

i think the saruman model will look a little out of place, as LOTR-models are a little smaller than Warhammer models, the LOTR ones are 25 mm, and normal warhammer models are 28 mm, IIRC.
On the Black Knight subject, it depends what type of feel you're trying to give that unit, or your whole army. If you want them to look like dead knights raised en masse or from recent death, maybe Empire. If you're going for a classic Blood Dragon chivalry theme, perhaps Bretonnians are more appropriate.
Decide where your vampire force is coming from, if they are from Bretonnia go with the knights of the realm, if they're from the empire then use those knights.
The Empire knights will give you more of a uniform appearance and in my opinion are easier to paint. And the Brets are well Brets they look kind of all over the place, even more so if you paint each one differently as GW seems to love.
I can read now!
I made my black knights from Empire knightly order. cut of many of the thingies on their helmets. I used spare parts from skeletons ( such as heads, one left arm, some grave guard shields, one skeleton body) I painted it mostly in dwarf bronze and dark angels green(as the theme colors in my army) with a little black ink all over the bronze to look old and dirty.
