this is what we use for cityfight but obviously a lot more of it on the table.

all the buildings were made out of 5mm foamcard cut into 3'' strips then the larger storey buildings had a corricard 'floor' glued on then another layer of foamcard.

Yeah, I made one a while back and then moved town and left it behind. It's a one piece 6x4 board with a road system built on to it, about 1 main road with a couple of side streets. The areas sectioned off by the road were of a standardised area or 2 areas adjoining. Then I could make buidlings, ruins, bunkers, crater areas, pipe farms, storage areas, landing pads etc on hardwood sheets that matched the standardised area and could be moved around to fit the spaces. You with me? Kinda like a modular system. It was pretty cool if i can honk my own horn. I also made several tank-traps, mine-fields and razorwire sections as well as a ruined tank so I could block off the roads as needed. Ahhh... the freedoms of student life.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!

speaking from personal prefrence you don't want to have your terrain fixed to a board in any one permament fashion not even the roads

as very soon you'll get to the stages where you'll have started on every side of the board, and someone will always tend to adopt the same tactic.

if you had to have the roads for example fixed to the surface then id go for scenic terrain modules for just the base

then that way you could have the fixed effect for the base surface but also the variety of being able to swap what the terrain looked like.

Set up your road grid first, the rest kind of goes from there.. Work from the ground up so to speak. That way you're not creating the age old problem of overthinking the scenery

The kind of city fight table that I made isnt really solely for city fight. I dont have any pictures of it, but if you go to www.batreps.com and check out the Tyranids vs. Tau battle report. Found easier in the Tau link.

    Terrain ideas for city fight.

If you are thinking about making terrian for the city fight i recommend that you place the terrain on square base boards (12"x12"). This makes the terrain appear to be on city blocks and allows you create different road plans just by changing the building arrangement. I have created a mold of blocks in order to create a sidewalk for building which i have used. You can also make smaller details on round bases; such as fountains, lamp posts, craters, cars, etc. I can post pictures of some the terrain later... when i take a pic.
