I'm building a Tyranid army, its got a bit of everything in it an now I want some Zoanthropes.
Trouble is, the new models are ugly, the previous version was ok and the original one was.. I lack words to describe the yuckiness.
Confident that I could do something decent with the new model, I purchased one.. its hell to assemble and its unreprably ugly.
Currently I'm thinking that some big Tyranid head, either the previous Tyrant head or a Zoanthrope head (this edition or previous) stuck onto a warrior body with no legs and some small scything talons, maybe those from the Genestealer sprues would work.
So, now I'm left with an unassembled and ugly model and a vague idea... so I'm asking all of you if you have any experience with converting Zoanthropes.
zoanthropes are beautiful! iwas going to buy just because they look so cool.
well, if you play Chaos and need a Tzeentchi daemon prince, there's part of your model right there, just whack off the head and add flamer bitz.
Usually I am all for converisons, but you've got to be kidding me. The new Throape is awesome and the last 2 are REALLY bad.
We've converted Tyranid parts into all sorts of armies:
My ideas off the bat would be to have a central body with tentacles dangling underneath in a mass.
Another consideration is price-- how much better if you can create something out of spare parts that looks better than the original!
That said, I think that taking a carnifex head and reworking it, perhaps pointing the mount downwards and covering it with a dozen or so tentacles worked out of strands of green stuff might be a good start.
Hmmmm... you just sparked some good ideas.
Thanks for the replies, although "omg, the new model roxxorz" is less than helpful :p
I think I'll spend some time looking through my old Call of Cthulhu books, there must be something usable/buildable in there.
What specific parts of the model is it that you dont like?
If you like the head and not the body, I got an idea:
Use 2 big schithing talons, (from a carnifex or from the warriors monstrous arms sprue) and 4 smaller talons (from the genestealers like you said)
Then cut the head from the body, drill 6 holes in it. 3 on each side and put the arms in those as legs, with the big ones as the front legs.
That way you use part of the big head as body, and end up with some evil, insectiod Psycher-Grasshopper. (could also use the big arms as jumpy hind-legs if you like grasshoppers really much)
And the thing ends up with his brains in his ass! How cool is that?[/edit]
Otherwise I dont know anything else but to mailorder some of those old things.
[edit, again]Woot 250 posts, I feel like an old guy now! Oof my back hurts, my eyes get crappy, need my pills, better start working on my last will. [/edit]

Hardly see my message being that way. I have an itching to tell you to do something inappropriate for protraying me in such a idoitic manner, but my conscious (moderators) got the better of me.Originally Posted by Gorbass
I just think using completely different models to represent something else is not right. My buddy uses the new throape as a daemonhost. It grinds my bones whenever he uses it:glare: .
Hmm. I actually use a few modified (With GW parts) Call of Cthulu models for Daemonhosts, Chaos Spawn and the like. Yes I know I probably wouldn't be allowed to take them in a Grand Tournament since they're not all GW parts, but thats not my point.
I like the way that no two of them are alike. It bothers me that GW put out a few Chaos Spawn models and the like as the only ones. The point is that they are all different. While I take your point that it is annoying when something isn't WYSIWYG, like calling that guardsman with a lasgun a heavy bolter or that genestealer patriarch a daemon prince, there should be a certain amount of leeway.
