I'm working on a paint scheme for my tyranid army, and I wanted something I haven't seen before (they were previously painted with the behemoth colors). I'm thinking of a blue/purple blend on the flesh, and a yellow blended into orange for the carapace. How do you all think this would look?
I think if you reverse that scheme it would be more eye catching. Good color choice though, my favorite complimentary colors (yellow and purple).
The nids would look very odd with yellow on the outside... but thats my opinion.

Had Tzeentch before I knew how to play :P
Once I get them stripped and get the right paints, I'll have to try both ways and see which I like better. I like the color choices, and thats what I see in my head, so you may be right on where the colors go.
With how small most tyranids are, is it worth trying to blend one color into another, or would it be better to just get a cross shade and do it all in that?
this sounds like a good idea. imho it could work with the ornage/yellow being the carapace colour, it would make a good contrast imo.
about the blending, it's worth it. the carapaces are quite easy to blend too and it's isn't that hard to do with them. definitely worth it if you have the time/determination
Spoiling is a way of life!
A really intresting color scheme. I agree with Centum on which one to use, altough the other could be cool.
This has been linked a few times, but it definitely helped me to decide on something a little out of the ordinary. It's way beyond my skill level, but it was inspiring anyway.
Necrotales -- Painted Miniatures, Galleries & Tutorials
This is just my two bolter shells...
Skin - A warm yellow color, with orange stripes. The orange would be a shade, or two, brighter than the yellow.
Eyes/Tounge - Painted bright green, as neon-like.
Carapace - The blue/purple blend, you had mentioned.
Teeth/Talons - Black with small highlights. You can use a varnish over them, to make them look glossy and covered in spit.
Your idea is quite good, and the colors would make a striking model, let alone a whole force. I just took your idea, a bit farther.
Good luck with your painting, and I hope to see some pics soon.
