When i paint sword blades, i ran into this neat trick that has a cool looking effect to it. Under coat the blade in question with a black-to-white grayscale gradient. For those who don't know what that means, make the black slowly fade into dark gray, then gray, then light gray, then white. Have the black end of the gradient towards the base of the blade so the tip of it is white. Then LIGHTLY paint silver over it directly. even if the gradient isn't that great the silver will mask the transitions but the contrast is noteworth from end to end.

I sometimes do this inplace of painting a blade gunmetal and then highlighting silver. I just like the effect.

I can almost see the effect...
Do you have any pics of the model?

Usually when I paint swords it only ends up with the standard mithrill silver all over.
Ofcourse if there is rune details on the sword then these are taken into close perspective and given a coat as good as possible.
Sometimes also cover the blade in black ink and then highlight over that...

    Kasutta!
