Hello mate, here are a few simple tips that can be used with a cheap digital camera to get photos like this

Firstly purchase a mini tripod like this one...

used in conjunction with the cameras timer setting will give you a solid picture with no camera shake.

Don't use a flash, instead use a lamp with a halogen light and tape a piece of plain white paper/or tracing paper over the lamp. This will light the subject enough without creating a glare. You may wish to use more white paper opposite the lamp to "bounce" light alll around the mini.

Use Macro mode, the little flower button. And don't go too close. Use the optical zoom but not the digital.

When pressing the shutter button, half depress the button and wait for it to focus, the curser on screen should change to green. Once thats done continue pressing the button. Don't lift your finger off, hold it to focus.

Basically what Gareth said.

There was a slick article in White Dwarf a bit ago about what settings to use on a more advanced camera. They also use two lamps. One above and one to the right, then bounce the ligt back onto the minit with a white paper on the left. They also used the white sheet of paper behind.

Always use that tripod that Gareth mentioned - or a stack of books(something that won't shake) if you can't afford one.

You can get some really nice shots this way.

I just bought a new camera about a month before christmas, and it is ace. I use 2 lamps, both with daylight globes, and 2 sheets of paper, one to the left, and one behind te mini. Takes good pics. I should post some rather then just talk about them. :)

Well, here they are, i have made my first acceptable photos with a sony handycam, a tripod, and two halogen lamps.

i got some problems fixing one halogen after half-shooting,( i broke one lamp, man!), so there are some photos darkened and pretty unidentifiable.

follow the link to see the photos and check'em out.
