I am planning to (attempt) to build Thunderhawk Gunship from scratch - or a suitable semblance of one that could be used in accordance with proxy/game rules. Current thoughts on this piece are:
Use Landraider and Razorback weapon sprue to handle weapons. Platistruct plastic for structure and basic form.
I am stuck as to what to use for the main cannon (top rear center of body), and the engines. As far as I can find, GW has not made any models that I could scavange to make engines.
Also, anyone know what approximate dimensions to use for the piece?
I just cant afford to buy the FW model (375 BP = $600+ USD).
Well, for the main cannon, I'd say a earthshaker barrel would be you best bet, otherwise look for some copper tubing maybe?
As far as the Engines go, I saw one Ork player use the enginges from a Star Wars Pod Racer for motors on a Looted ThunderBolt.
I reakon a earthshaker cannon would be your best bet on the gun. Not sure about engines though...
Are you going to bulid an interior or something along those lines?
By day he fought with sword and shield.....
By night he fought with pen and parchment.....
He was....The Warrior Poet.......
Fear the ANZAC Clan!!!!!
ORDER OF THE SHADOWY FLAME!!!
Do you have uber micro...????
Haven't thought about do an interior at the moment. I'd like to have some dimensions first - that will give me space and complexity considerations, and will help to determine if I would pursue an interior set up.

Outstanding links! Thank you. I have some better ideas on specs now.
While you probably have enough now, I turned up a couple more good links.

hi i have some ideas for your thunderhawk for the engines i'm curently building my second thunderhawk the first i made for my ultramarines the second maybe for my new bloo angels or blood ravens.the ultramarine thunderhawk has the engines of a battlestar galactica colonial viper i had. the other thunderhawk is going to get 3 fleismann train model fuel containers with the old games workshop paint pots as the back end of the engine and the new paint pot as the air intake as for the rest well i have a BIG bit box of leftovers if you whant to see the first thunderhawk go to spellekijn.nl the pictures there are old and its still white plasticard if can i'll post some more pictures as for the cannon just use ever green plastic card tubing thy have diffrend sizes.
i am also considering building a thunderhawk. i cannot afford the Forgeworld one.
