I'm planning on working on my Eldar Avatar and have seen some people do it where it looks like the Avatar is made out of magma. Like red, orange, and white in the cracks leading up to a burnt reddish black.
Any ideas of how to do this?

The problem with that technique is it requires the detail to already be modelled onto the base.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
But, really, it's the same concept - which I'll call "Reverse Highlighting."
Generally, people add highlights to the model, where things get brighter toward the edges, right? For example... A Dark Angels Green base, highlighted along the edges with Snot Green, then Scorpion Green. Each successive highlight gets smaller and lighter toward the edges.
Simply flip that around - start with the light color in the recesses, and add your highlights... but get darker with each one, rather than brighter. Go backwards, if that makes sense.
If you have a pic of a specific Avatar you're trying to emulate, I'll see if I can offer specific advice, but basically the "theory" is Reverse Highlighting.
