After many attempts at cutting foam, I decided it was much easier to buy the pre-scored trays produced by SABOL. They're only $5-6, and much easier than trying to cut foam. Other than that, I use the egg crate (bumpy) foam and set the miniatures in the valleys created by the bumps.

I buy mine from The War Store. Click on SABOL and they have a selection of trays as well as the army cases.

Yes. Its www.{Ads-Protection}.com Remove the "{}" and put their name in the ads protection section. LO cuts out part of the address for vendors if they aren't on their list to keep from filling the board with advertisements.

Depending on the shape of the original foam chunk, I'd say it varies. If you have a fairly thin sheet of foam the best way would probably be a pair of scissors. If it's like a large cube of foam it might be hard to get a smooth edge... I'd go with scissors there too.

I myself use the "egg carton" style of foam, scavenged from work. The tech guys had some excellent empty boxes in which they'd received battery rechargers and general stuff for a bunch of laptops. I nicked three boxes, which contained two sheets each, and then got a few extra sheets. Now I can fit all my infantry in three dual layer boxes, and it didn't cost me a dime.
