Where would I purchase Acrylic Extenders from? I asked the guy at the store where I get my 40k stuff from and he didn't know what I meant. Also, while I was waiting in line I saw matte and gloss finishes. I know gloss makes things look shiny, but what effect does matte have?

Matte means its non-reflective. The opposite of shiny.

You can get acrylic extenders at an art supply store. If you don't have one close I would try a michael's craft store or any of the online art supply stores. Very easy to come by.
Matte tends to still have a bit of shine - not quite as bad as the gloss varnishes. I recommend Testor's dullcote for a dead flat finish. Personally I use krylon crystal clear matte varnish (usually about 2 coats), followed by about 2 coats of testors dullcote.
