Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've now painted my Battlesuit mainly in a color I made by mixing Chainmail and Blood Red (added some Black Ink to make it thinner/darker). So, when I highlight now, should I take a lighter version of that? Or should I use a non-metal red to highlight? I've never done a successful highlight yet, so please give me some advice ^^
I would try and progress towards a final highlight of a bright silver. If you're only going to do a single highlight, grab a silver paint (not chainmail but something brighter) and just do the edges. If you plan on doing more of a progession, you'll need to ease off both the red and the darkness. Ultimately you're going to need to play around with a bit to find something you like... find some some plastic to practice on. While I'm at it, consider a very dark (and very thin) wash of black/red to get the gaps between the armor plates.
To be a bit more general, I'm not sure that learning to highlight with metallics is a great idea. This could be purely personal bias, but I think it's a lot easier to get the hang of non-metallics first because you don't have the extra sparkle to the paint. Take a look at the color articles on the Brush Thralls website that's linked to in a sticky. They're very basic and very helpful. For the most part it's intuitive, but it helps when you understand your intuition.
You play your game, I'll play mine.
You're maybe right, guess I should rather highlight my FW's first. They are Vomit Brown, so guess I'll just mix that with some Bleach Bone to get a nice color to use? Or should I use a darker? Should I then drybrush them with it? I'm no good at thisOriginally Posted by Bob Dole
Could just do the edge highlight on the Battlesuits, but don't have any lighter than Chainmail to use on the edges of the Battlesuits though
Would you post a pic please? i am curious about the result
I'll go out on a wild goose chase here if you don't mind.
I would drybrush the cloth with bleached bone.
Then carefully use a fine detail brush to go around the edges of the amour plates on ur FW's with...mabey vomit brown mixed with bleached bone until you get a light creamy yellow so put in lots more bleached bone than vomit brown.

I'll try that, hope I don't screw it all up then
