Okay. I've looked at the Tau models..
And I dont really like them.
So, since im into arthropods, and such, I had a crazy idea.
Im going to get some Preserved Japanese Giant Hornet bodies to play with.
This is what they look like.
I will use bits and stuff to mod up some kinda guns for them. Can use green stuff, and various tau bits to give them armor.. and to made a Helmet things on one... for the Tau Mind control.
I think they will be amazing, and quite intimidating on the field.
I swear to god if someone put one of them onto the tabletop id be picking up the heaviest piece of terrain and smashing it ontop of the bug till it is just a pile of dust. Sorry but i hate them i think they are really horribly disgusting lol.
Cool man but I saw those I would freak out of mind. Go for it, but please, for love of god, just use models.
Vespa Mandarina. Novel idea, but i dont think it'd work. People want to see modelling, not taxidermy.
"It fits like clothes made out of wasps!"
I think that the idea is great, but you will probably find the preserved hornets to be very fragile and adding the equipment and weapons will be difficult. On the other hand, the general body shape should not be impossible to make with green stuff as it is pretty simple. You could use legs and arms from other models, maybe kroot or some such.
I have considered making giant hornets as random creatures for one of my battlefield worlds. It is supposed to be a feral planet, with giant insects and arachnids. Already have two large spiders and a giant scorpion.
It is too bad that the 2nd edition metal Tyranid warriors are just too big. They had a hornet or wasp shape to their body.
Tyranids: Hive Fleet Kohr-Ah
holy crud those things are HUGEEE, im glad i dont live in japan!
That reminds me that I still have about five of the plastic tyranid warriors from Advanced Space Crusade, from 15 years ago. To be honest, I think they are more interesting than the current Vespids, so I am inclined to try converting a couple, maybe with Greenstuff wasp-like heads.
At art college, I used some dead wasps for a sculpture once. They fell apart pretty easily though. So IMHO large insects are just gonna fall apart and be generally unpleasant on a gaming table.
Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?
Thats very gross, and not the best idea. I think that maybe converting some nids would be better:x
THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY LIES IN MY PANTS
i luv it. With little helmets and railguns on their backs!
putting them on a flying base as well and scare the heck out of little girls.
but those preserved insects are just far too fragile.
nice Idea though,
It freaks me out, using dead bugs as parts in model... can't you get some plastic toy-anthropods?
