Warhammer 40,000 Assault Marine (Landing)
Hey everyone. I've been thinking about Converting a Space Marine to a crouching position for quite awhile now, but then I had a really awesome idea (to me, at least )!
I want to convert an Assault Marine so that he is on a single knee, with his left hand planted on the ground for balance, while the other hand is stretched out behind him holding his chainsword or bolt pistol, and looking forward (instead of straight at the ground).
I tried to just take some legs and make a few cuts (for his left leg ((which is the one that will NOT have its knee planted on the ground)) one of the cuts was at his knee, and one was at his upper thigh, basically where his leg meets his body and the other just at the knee). I then attempted to use Green Stuff to fill the joints out enough that they could sit comfortably and naturally, but I was met with very little success. I'll let those who don't know already in on the fact that I am a) totally incompetent with Green Stuff and b) visually impared, so... This is gonna be rough. For anyone that decides to try to help me, please make sure that your instructions are as clear as you can make them, as it's very easy for me to miss small details on a model and totally screw things up.
Thanks VERY VERY VERY much to anyone that posts here to help!
Maybe I am not getting the full visual on what you are looking for - but have to considered using the kneeling marine legs that come with the Space Marine Devastator squad? Barring that one thing to try when re-positioning lets is to cut a V chunk out of the back of the leg - move the leg to the position you want and fill the "hole" with green stuff.
To smooth greenstuff an ideal way is to wet your fingers and gently push from top to bottom until smooth. The key is to keep it wet and not apply too much pressure otherwise you will end up with fingerprinter.
There was a step by step instruction manual on the web somewhere for changing all the joint positions on a space marine that I was told about, but never took advantage of.
My friend Geoff will know. If you don't get help by then, I'll try to post something about it later on this week if I can get a hold of him.
Actually, I should use it as well.
I had this idea for a blood claw vaulting sideways over the top of my venerable dreadnought with one palm flat on the top of the dreadnought and the other firing his pistol forward and his legs kicked out to the side.
I was going to call it my version of extra armour on the dread.
Whatever happens, I bet you'll have to pin the repositioned joints to make them strong enough to stay in that position and to provide a skeletal framework for any greenstuff you use rather than just gripping the cut plastic.

As to how, I am in the same boat as you. I have tried a few things, but it only works when you make it with pinning etc, THEN GS it, so it is already rigid.

Are you sure that there is a pair of kneeling legs in the Devastator box? ARG!
Assault marine legs can be cut and reposed anyway.

Good luck with your conversion whatever path you take!
You could use one of those bases that the Terminators are on, then cover thw bse with like 2 or os CMs of GS. Then oyu could use teh Devastator legs everyone is talking about. And you could carve a "dent" in the GS to represent the landing and perhaps hes landing on someone?
It's been a minute.
I don't think there is a kneeling devistator. I could be wrong, I checked the link given because I think the concept is pretty cool myself, and I didn't see one. Unless it is something very new to the Dev Squad The only new thing I saw was the command sprue and that doesn't come with kneeling legs as far as I have seen.
Here is a link to some thorough instructions on how to do the conversion.
Best of luck with the GS.

From what I understand the new devastator sqauad comes with a sprue that has kneeling legs on it. Looks like the online store might not be up to date. Should have one in there though.
