Whilst surfing the shopping area on the gamesworkshop site, a really random vision appeared and it took the form of butchering commissar Yarricks power claw and attaching it to my space marine commander. The main aim behind doing this was creating a character to link in with the fluff i had written for my army.
In the end i my commander took shape as i gave him
...assault marine legs
...new commanders torso
...the cape from the commander box set
...storm bolter and shoulder pads from the commanders box set
...and as a moment of complete randomness Yarricks Power Claw
I will post pictures of this commander asap.
Does anyone have any advice on what i could model next
Cheers Srixx :ninja:
Make him a really cool command squad, with company champion and all...
"I have died a thousand deaths, and I will die a million more..."
Could always try a different torso - you see the same one with the same daft braids on the fron out of the comander box every time.
I'm going to use (over the next month) one of the iron hands legs and torsos for mine.
Also before i forgot to mention i had a Raven Guard army so therefore has (well not relly) to have a jump pack... for the next conversion i think looking at a command squad would be pretty awesome but im horrible with limitations if anyone could write a command squad for raven guard and post it i'll have a look a converting it!
Cheers Srixx :ninja:
I agree, try out some different torsos, especially if you're giving him a big ol' mechanical arm, which would probably look a little forced on a SM body.
Consider an Iron Hands body, or the techmarine torso you get on the SM tank accessory sprues.
Also, why does he have assault squad legs? Is he going to have a jump pack? If so, maybe give him an assault squad torso and model some bits to add some interest to the straps. I always like it when people put the effort into trying to make thier models as realistic as possible, and jump pack straps really seem like they are worth it.
For what it's worth, I'm planning my next commander using the mk3 iron armour torso from the Black Templars sprues.

Yeah with my commander i slapped a jump pack on him and modelled the straps across the front of his chest but i used the assualt marine legs because i wanted him in a running position. So he's pretty much positioned so that he's looking down the gun sight with the powervlaw hanging next to him.
maybe for the command squad jump packs (and the commanders) you could model no wings.
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-
Only this, and nothing more."
