I'm not sure whether this should be in the painting or conversion forums.
Basically, I have my own chapter with blank shoulderpads. I want them to have a stylised lion and unicorn emblem, like a simplified, futuristic version of the emblem you see on old buildings in Britain (the chapter are Victorians in space). I don't want to end up painting by hand, as it will come out looking wonky.
Does anyone know how I could build a stencil, or whether there are transfers elsewhere? I've checked GW, but no success. All ideas appreciated.
I wouldn't have a clue, I think you're up for a tough ride, good luck.Originally Posted by Steerpike

Making a stencil shouldn't be that hard - plenty of graf artists make stencils that complicated, I beleieve you just need some paper / card and a very sharp knife. Lookup Banksy and a guide from him (Banksy rules)
They are a lot easier to paint with air brush though . . .
Cut the logo onto somthing that is flexible so it fits on the marines pad, I might try and do a stencil myself....

Or you could draw your design and there are several places on the net that can produce decals for you. Though its probably pricey and im not sure how good they would be.
OR, you can produce it on your computer (I made my own that way) and then print it out onto tamiya decal paper....
Tau - Knights of the Frozen Wastes
Necrons - The Phalanx of Gleaming Death
CSM - Iron Warriors
98% of the teen population has smoked weed, if you are the 2% that hasn't, put this in your signature.
If you want black or coloured symbols, it would probably be easiest to do as someone suggested and make a design on a computer (failing that, get somone else to make you one) and print onto some decal paper.
If you want white symbols, however, you will either need a to find a printer that prints white ink, a print shop with screen-printing facilities, or to get a company online to do you some (check out *ginfritter* or *griffon games*).
I have quite a lot of experience with stencilling, and have tried before to make some for space marine shoulder pads. To be honest though, it didn't work. The problems are that a stencil of any complexity will not bend nicely over even a curve on one plane, let alone two.
Combine this with the difficulty of making an accurate stencil that small, and all in all the job isn't worth doing. If you are confident with GS, you might be able to sculpt a stencil on the right curves, which might solve the problems that I had.
Otherwise, I'd suggest attempting to sculpt some small relief icons, or get practicing freehanding those icons (this is what I did).
Good luck man, and I hope I was of some use.

if you search decal paper on google, you should find a website that allows you to print water slide decals
