Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi All - after a while out of painting I've been at it agin for the past month or so - just coming up to finishing my first tactical squad (I'm *SO* slow!!!!). Basically I'm looking for a little advice on this scheme / paint job - what do you think went well - what went badly.
Also - if you can (although this may be inapropriete for this forum, I'm happy to start another in the marines forum) is what should I bloody call them and what symbol should I use? I have the infinity symbol but I used to use that when I was 13 and I don't think it fits anymore. Anyway, let me know - or I'll move the naming bit!!

First thing I thought of for a name was Death Jesters.
The Infinity symbol isn't a bad one.
The symbol I want for my chapter is a 3 headed dragon but I can't paint details that fine on a shoulderpad. And DoW doesn't have the bages as seperate images so I couldn't turn them into a file and print out a slew of them on transfer paper.
May your aim be true, and your targets plentiful.
the only thing i have to say is why can't i paint like you
Look good mate!
If I could just make a suggestion, the white side of the armour I think needs darker shadowing. There isn't enough contrast between the dark recesses and the light armour.
Maybe codex grey, or even darker, in the resesses and cracks.
Escaflowne, I beleive that you are talking about the three headed hydra in Dow? If so, use the transfer sheet out of a CSM box. That symbol is used for the Alpha legion, so it is on the CSM transfer sheet.
I like that banner's iconary, but i dunno if this was right to say this, but a name for them could be like Emperor's Eternity Guard. Since the symbol is Infintie, and thats like eternity, then they are space marines, so i think Emperor's Eternity Guard would be suitable. how bout the symbol be the Infinite symbol in front of a yellow star on the blue shoulder pad

"DID WE JUST SIGN UP FOR A SUICIDE MISSION, RICO?" "YEAH WE JUST DID, WHEN WE ENLISTED" LOVE THE IMPERIAL GUARD, JOIN TODAY!!
I will second what solo said. the shading is beautiful, but I think a fine blackline in a darker grey would lift the detail nicely. You painting is certainly very neat!
Death Jesters sounds great...
Beware the Agapanthers!
Codex Astartes: More a guideline than a rule...
Isn't Death Jester an old Eldar thing? A harlequin that's to far gone?
A Murder Is Only An Extraverted Suicide.....
Yes Death Jesters are a harlequin unit (or used to be anyhow). I really like the name Emperor's Eternity Guard, except that I would drop the Emperor's part and make it just Eternity Guard. That's just because most SM chapters seem to have either one or two word names.
As for the painting I commend you on your neatness, very well executed. I personally don't much go for the parti colour look but that's subjective. I would also suggest that the colour selection is a bit loud. The tri-colour look is great for heraldry but it doesn't do much for minis that are supposed to be big scary marines. Since you had two people suggest you use the name Death Jesters I submit that it may be that many people will find the colour scheme a little... "clownish"?.
Like I said before though, excellent execution on the painting. As for the symbol, I really like the infinity symbol that you have painted on the banner.

Very good painting, especially liked the plasma gun blending. Glad to see they're not plastered with rosettes and skirts like so many marines today. These boys look like they want to fight.
No ideas on a chapter name but the two tone colour scheme says "night and day" to me, and Death jesters is a definite non starter. Too much like killer clowns.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
