[pics] Black Dragon SM Scout Sergeant

Hey guys, this is the Scout Sergeant I painted (in somewhat of a rush) for the Order of the Shadowy Flame leader contest that we had a while ago (and seems to have vanished without a trace...).

Anyway, without further ado, I give you Veteran Sergeant Kaelis of the Black Dragon Space Marine Chapter:

    What does anyone think?
    C&C welcome and needed.

    Cheers in advance.

    Love it! You've done well.
The blending looks real good on the hair and face.

Criticism? maybe the highlighting on the black (like the power fist) could be a bit more blended and a bit thinner. Just looks a bit too prominent at the moment, like a single colour.

This is a great job. Awsome if all your marines look like this its going to be one hell of a chapter. Do you free hand the dragons?

Really nice mate. I like the face and shading, very smooth. I dunno about the 'fist arm with the tactical shoulder pad, it looks a bit too chunky for a scout, but since I am only in the middle of giving my own scout serge a powerfist, I won't criticise...

    nice blending on the face.

I also like the stance of the scout. Did you convert it?

Cheers guys, always nice to be appreciated

Solo; you're right, the highlighting on the black probably could be better, I might see if I can improve it by dulling the whole lot down a little, then adding another highlight at about the brightness it is now, to smooth it out somewhat.

RoV; the thinking behind his huge powerfist was slightly convoluted, but bear with me...
Basically, I thought that a powerfist probably runs from the power supply in normal power armour, so that a scout normally wouldn't be able to use one. However, the strange metal box on his back is a small, mobile generator, which links in to the fist. The weight of such a weapon means that to use it efectively, even a Space Marine needs the servo-assists built into power armour, so the whole arm has been modified to come up to power arour spec.
Obvious really... But yes, it does look quite chunky...

dicegod; yes, he is converted, both legs and both arms have been repositioned with the aid of green stuff, and the power generator on his back was made out of bits of rhino I had lying around.

Thanks again guys, and keep it coming.

I love this conversion minus-t, the weight you have given to the power fist really works well. Your painting is very very clean, and the use of a guardian head is a brillant idea!

    Cheers ^_^

Well, the guardian head was a bit of desperation due to time constraints and the god-awful plastic scout heads at the moment... I'm going to have to give a lot of thought on how to make them look anywhere near good.

I just noticed I didn't answer DerkaDerka, how rude of me.
Anyway, yes, the Dragons are freehanded. I'm getting quite good at them as this is the start of my third version of this Chapter. I'm starting them again, working up a 1000pts army at a very slow pace but to as high a standard as I can. There are a few pics of the last version of the Black Dragons in my gallery if you want to see.

Very nice, the PF really stands out, nice paiting and conversions, keep it up.
