a spawn of chaos is a character bestowed with so many chaotic gifts, he is mutated into a beast known as a Spawn of Chaos. i want to capture this mutation using the arms, tail and claws of a Spawn, a chest plate and head of a humanoid. to fit the scaling of the Spawn's arms what model do you think would have a big enough face and chestplate to model these pieces in?
i was gonna mutate the face by making a big stretched-from-the-face jaw and small tenticles coming from the hair of the head and randomly on the body to make it Slaneesh-like. also, for the legs i was going to arrange the claws that come from the spawn's back into legs like a spider on my model.
my red ink is doomed!
If this is a gaming piece I would stick with the standard figures. The brettonian line should have quite a bit of bitz to convey that this was once a man.
The problem areas you will need to look at are - Chaos spawns started out human but grew much larger after mutation - so for the starting of transformation you will have to find the parts of the chaos spawn that are smaller and work with those, possibly some tryanid pieces, and probably quite a bit of your own custom work with Green Stuff.
If possible I would suggest maybe sketching out your idea and looking through the GW catalogue to find various bitz that will work with your idea. Once you decide on what pieces to use it is more of a matter of getting all the pieces to work well together.
That is how I would progress.

Like Slorak said Tyranid pieces will work well, and I think Wood Elf Dryads might have a thing or two to offer as well.
It's a great idea to make your own spawns I'll soon start making more of them. I'd like to have a set for every army I face so when I transform any enemy-models to spawns I can put a race-specific piece on the table. I ahve begun making a Black Templar one but that's just beacourse I "gifted" an Emperors Champion in a battle against them.
You can find other usefull pieces on the Mutation-, Zombie- and Kroot-sprues.
