My local GW manager decided today that Ork Lootas may take a Drop Pod as a valid transport because Space Marine Tactical Squads have it as an option in the army. I know this has been disputed back and forth but this is what he has decided.
So. I am doing a Blood Axe Airborne army with Fighta Bomma's, Looted Drop Pods and lots of Kommandos. First question:
Drop Pods. Since it's a Blood Axe army, I feel a little cheesy just using an SM one. Any other ideas or methods for making something drop pod like? Would using Polostyrene foam and wire cutters to make an Ork Rok be okay or too far-out?
My other idea was using the Transport container part of the Eldar Wave Serpent as a Drop "Box", having it arrive on the battlefield via Parachute dropped (theoretically) from Ork Bommas. Leading me to my second question.
Parachutes. What is the best way to make these? I was thinking using the round palm tops from the 40k terrain? I also decided I was going to have a Stormboyz squad of 15 with Parachutes instead of Rockets on their backs, so I need a reasonable quick and easy method.
you know the slurpie cup tops? the dome shaped ones? well, attach those to your models for a good conversion. maybe twine with glue on it to make it stiff? other than that, wrap up some tissue paper and tie a string around it to make a wrapped up parachute.
You could take some tissue paper or any paper, place it onto of a suitble shape for a parachute and add pva glue. Make sure you have cling flim between the mould and the paper
I just want to add that I think drop pods are so fitting for Orks, only space marines and orks would even contemplate dropping from space in a tin can
Remember that even orks need a sealed vehicle, or they'll suffocate/burn to deff during reentry.
They could be dropped once in the atmosphere, so paras would be fine.
I recommend the tissue paper and the pva route, the paper makes for a thinner and more realistic material imo.
Cervantes: In order to attain the impossible, one must attempt the absurd.
For your drop pods, go to a hardware store and buy 3" plumbing end caps, one side will be threaded and will fit into another cap...here
Follow that but add three parachutes coming off the pod on the ground around it.
As for storm boys...aren't the rokkits used for movement? So why would they have parachutes? Make them have gliders or parasails like this
That's what I'ld do...I might just do this
...and you will know my name is the lord, when I strike down my vengence upon thee...
You could just put a bunch of discarded parachutes on a CD, with an armed grot representing the storm bolter
I actually really like this idea, so muchin fact that I may loot it. no so much for actual battlefield use, but just for the fun of moddeling a bunch of orks with parachutes. ooooo, and how can I resist making the boy with the chute that didn't open, or better yet had a rock in it instead. lol.

That's a brilliant idea. More of a landing site than a drop pod. Awesome, this is what I will do! Thanks for all the other ideas guys. I'll post some photos when I get started.Originally Posted by Tubal
