Back in the day (1991) my chum had a flying disc of tzeentch with a marine on it - just for kicks. It looked sweet so I made one from a old Rhino door and a plastic marine.
Fast forward 15 years.
I find myself unable to have any standard troops at all - they all look a bit too dull so I'm working on converting everything for an eventual force that's big enough to play with. I'm in need of two assault squads - I'm going to have one with v large riot shields, and I'm considering making the other ones all have hoverboards instead of jump packs.
Q1: Does that sound cool?
Q2: How game legal do you reckon it is, if I keep them armed as they should be and on the right size base?
Q3: Got any ideas for what to make them from, or how to do them? Control methods, how big to make the engines etc. etc.
Cheers all Hope your all having a good easter weekend
1- It sounds VERY cool, good luck
2- Why wouldn't they be legal?
3- a couple suggestions: their feet are attached to the boards with magnets, so you don't have to worry about straps/bolts, and have at least one doing some sort of trick. I don't skateboard or snowboard, but maybe someone who does could suggest a particular one. Also, definitely try and use clear plastic flying things, even on their normal bases. Also, the board itself COULD be considered a weapon. And finally, how exactly do you fight/stay in place on a hoverboard?
You could use one of the small hovering Tau creature things that come with the warriors. Sort of a makeshift board. Add two straps at the front. Or you could take that basic structure but to indents in the top so the feet slot in. You could even have the tau hoverer and add the the jets on the base. Post a pic when you've done.i saw a cool battlesuit shield for tau in some picture. think it was a commander. you might want to check it out for a hoverboard
For a cool pose you could have him zooming off a tipped over barrel or grinding on it. You could also have him running his board into someone and like a spike or something through the guy being hit. I would just use plasticard for the boards.

159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
For a trick, glue the marine's fist to the clear base attachment to make it look like he's doing a flip or a vtol handstand.

Thanks for input people - don't worry I shall certainly post some pics when done, todays job is finishing off a tac squad, then I have a command squad to do, but then I'll get around to these babie s
use plasticard and glue a shouldpad to the bottom with a flamer end sticking out
You may mount them on larger bases but not smaller than those that come with the assault marines (which, seeing as its the 'standard' base I doubt you would go smaller).
Do you remember thise little finger skateboards that where a fad a few years ago? they would make perfect hoverboards, bolt some stuff on and you are away.
