I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas on how i could convert a plastic commissar for my IG.
I'm playing an entirely plastic all infantry army, and have converted all of my officers, banners, a master vox, and a whole slew of special weopans...... The one thing i cant manage is a commissar..
I can green stuff, but not that well, and the thing thats giving me trouble is the fact that all the commsiars have a uniform that i won't be able to green stuff onto a guardsman.
So, any ideas??
I can't think of a single plastic miniature that you could use for a Commissar. I think you'll have to be settling for a metal mini or you'll have to get good real quick with the g/s.
I'm no g/s master myself, but I'm in the middle of converting a Shining Spear Aspect Warrior into a jetbike mounted Warlock, so I could give a few hints.
Get some tin foil, blu-tac or tape it down to your table top, wet it then roll your g/s out flat with a wet texta or something.
Once thats nearly set, start attaching it to your plastic guardsmen or whatever you're going to use.
Build the Commissar uniform up in section, you'll just be doing the basic framework here.
Later you can add folds to the cloth with thin rolls of g/s, smoothing it into shape on the greatcoat you'll already have on the model.
As for the epaulets (spelling?), those bits on the shoulders, (you know what I mean) you could make a horse shoe shape with g/s then cut in the detail with a scalpel.
The hat will be a bugger. I'd recommend starting that off before attaching it the model.
Maybe even file the top of the head flat. Just work in sections, and you should be ok.
Good luck with it.

Try using some Fantasy Empire minis, Theres a great body on the command sprue in the regiment set that an officer feel to it.
Life is too serious to be taken seriously
IG tank accessories sprue.
it has an "officer" on it, different body, different legs from standard cadian. Might be worth looking at. You'd have to GS the greatcoat if you wanted one though.

easy, in the chimera kit and maybe other tank kits it comes with different heads, one incorperating a hat instead of a helmet, kind of like a german officers hat. This is a perfect head and the rest of the body also comes from that sprue I believe. The sword is up to you, there are many bits in this world!
The gold grey knight man. These are hardy men who like cheese.
Ever thought of how cheese was found?:
`` I say sah, the milk in this barrel smells foul!``
``Oooohhh, give it a go!``
''Quack, damn you!''

As with previous posts, i'd suggest the champion body from the empire set, maybe with some green stuff to alter details a little, it could be nice to find some robed legs (im sure there's something out there in fantasy), the head from the tank sprue would be great, then there probably some decent arms out there as well. It's probably good to remeber that the commissar models made by games workshop don't bear much reseblence to a normal guardsman, so it may be best to avoid using the cadian arms if you're going for that look. Theres a cool space marine bionic arm in the commander set, could look nice if you can model it properly with green stuff etc. then you can replace the chainsword with something a bit more meaty in CC. Storm bolter from the same set could be used with a right arm from somewhere (again i'd go for something with robes on) This is how i'd do it, but feel free to pick and choose from that lot to get something you'd be happy with.
i made my IG colonel out of plastic bits:
i used the tank commander with greenstuff for the epaulettes and the bottom of the greatcoat, an empire sword and an empire head- i was quite pleased with how it turned out!
would be easy enough to make a commisar along similar lines
