I'm trying to find the best way to paint straight lines on 40k SM's. I couldn't find anything in the search area, and hope someone can help. Thanks. I'm looking to make lines up the sides of the miniatures, kinda make the back one color and the front another. Any help is greatly appreciated.
step 1: Don't drink and paint
step 2: never done this myself, but if you'd like to exeriment, take some string, apply paint and carefully wrap in around the leg. <= horizontal
for vertical lines, one might find a very thin erasor, apply paint and stamp it on.
note*^^: the above is exerimental(except the drinking one, although if drinking makes straight=scew then perhaps if you paint scew, drinking will make it straight.) none the less, keep practicing, I'm sure you'll get it.
Please keep your hands and legs inside the vehicle and don't foget to post pics when you are done.
generally, tape is used over the areas you dont want to paint over.
The gold grey knight man. These are hardy men who like cheese.
Ever thought of how cheese was found?:
`` I say sah, the milk in this barrel smells foul!``
``Oooohhh, give it a go!``
''Quack, damn you!''

i would practice and also don't go very slowly because when you go fast there is less time to screw up and you generaly get a pretty straight line
Might even use pencil first.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.

Thanks guys, I think i'll try the tape. If that doesn't work too well, i'll just eye it.
If you are going to tape it - I would recommend using mask tape (not masking tape) found at an art supply store. It is usually blue in color and almost rubbery. That tape doesn't really stick to paint. Other types of tape could pull up the paint layer below it.
As for free handing it. Practice practice practice.

For doing strait lines or like the arrow's on a space marines shoulder pad's I find drawing its outline with a fine pen of its same color (about) the easist. Most of us can paint inside the lines fairly easy. For bigger things (like the arrow on the back of a rhino transporting a tactical squad), rulers help of course for drawing it out, or tape. Though tape on a small mini I would think to be very aggrivating.
Use a toothpick a few times, when you get used to it, you'll get it.
