I was wondering what the best primer is, ive used testors model flat black for my BT and also Citadel spray black but that stuff is expensive. Is there a good primer that is cheap.
Also, is there an easier way to get army insignia on soldier pads besides painting it on?
what the heck is primer (sos if it's a dumb Question bet i'm new)
Primer is a base of paint, usually sprayed on to the bare metal/plastic. Make sure you wash the parts before applying primer. It is designed to stick well to the surface, and provide a better surface for paint to adhere. Somtimes it will get completely covered with a base color or regular paint, other times the primer is the basis for shading the miniature. Black primers usually show through in the shadows/low points of the miniature. White primer is used with washes to show through on the high points to provide highlights.
I used to use only white primer, and found that citiadel/gw worked the best for me. I recently switched to black and now prefer it. After trying GW black primer, I worked my way through a selection of other brands. I now use Krylon Ultra-Flat black. It works well and is inexpensive. Krylon flat black does not give the same finish, but seems to work as well.
You get what you pay for. Citidel is the way to go hands down! its made for the figs not cars or what have you. you dont have to use much so a can should last you for almost a whole army. i use black almost exclusivly unless the fig is gonna be all yellow or somthing like that(built in shading)
btw. GO CANUCKS!!!!!
i like obscure models, i just use chaos black spray as a primer...
but on deathwing minis from SM DAs, i spray on bubonic brown instead...
i also believe that citadel is the way to go.
I use the spray on black or white it may be epensive but it works really well.
i dont think there is really a better way to go.
use white primer for light minis
use black primer for dark minis.
and when buying primer, the more you pay the better it may be
I use black primer citadel of course on everything, even my bleached bone Tau. It works best.
