yesterday I bought some more paints and began to highlight afew of my Imperial guard , they are only highlighted on the armour for now (ran out of money for paints) , so anyway here they are -
Constructive critiscm(spelling?) welcome.
personally I think my lines are bit messy but they look best from a foot away,
in my opinion it adds alot of depth and stops the colours from looking flat ,
but anyway comments please
P.s now that I see the pic i'm going to try to straighten up those lines and make them thinner
Not bad for a first try. Certainly better than my first highlighting.
The main problem I have with them is that they're very bright for a highlight on black. If you mixed whichever colour that is (codex grey or fortress grey?) with chaos black 50:50, then you'll find you have a much more subtle highlight, which shows up the whole thing much better.
they're not acctually that bright its the flash on the camera , thanks for commenting
more comments please
For a first try it looks good. Do as Rob says, wise words.
What colour is the cloth (snakebite leather)? I would try vomit brown to highlight them.
Sorry I've never highlighted before but that does look very good to me.
Is there a good article about highlighting? Do you just get the lighter colour (mix base colour with lighter colour) and paint it over the higher areas? Can you do this in a kind of drybrushing way?
are you serious that it looks good?
well the way I highlight is probably not the best but , I get a lighter colour and just outline everything , try to keep it thin though , looks better so say your army green , highlight with a lighter shade of green.
once again thanks for all the comments keep it coming.
I agree with Camel - try dry brushing a few models as a starter. It is a great effect and it is easily learned. It looks good on large groups of models and takes only a little time.
My opinion (and I am also a newbie) is that the grey lines on the weapons are too thick and too bright, mixing with your darker coat (in this case black) in a 50:50 mix for the first highlight, then an even thinner line with a 10/0 or 20/0 brush with grey will give you the effect you're looking for.
Looking forward to more pics!
If you want some good tips grab the GW guide to painting mintures - surprisingly good and covers many different model types - will only be about £8 off ebay
Yeah but that's £8
Anyway, thanks Camel. I'm looking at those articles on CMON now.
