Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have painted my necrons in a different way then the "usual" Necrons that I have seen. They are mostly in metalic colors and to me that is kind off boring with an army of just metal. So mine are grey/white/blue-ish, but I have a little problem. First I painted the whole model in the same colors (except the weapons) and when I took them out of the case they looked boring
So I painted some areas black on them, thats the parts of the model I want to have a different color on. I have thought on it for a while now and I can't come up with any good color that would match the rest of the model. So can you please help me with this. Give me some suggestions on how I can paint the black areas so it looks good with the rest of the model. I'm not against having them metal but I would prefer to have them in another way. But I guess that metal is the "safe" way and it will probably work but I would prefer something else.
Here is the model:
First of all I love this blue-bone colour, I don't know why, but the idea seems great!
The flash of the camera made the head look golden (very dark kind of gold - somehow ancient) this could be a possibility.
As you have already pointed out painting it like the gun would be safe, but if there's another possiblity I have to agree use the other one!
A dark blue is the last idea that came to my mind. It would fit to your blue-bone colour of the rest and it is different from other Necrons, though I don't know how it looks together with the green of the gun.
If you want to invest lots of work you can paint some kind of "blue marble" all over the black areas.
Just another idea: paint the sign on the chest or the whole area around it black (the new colour) as well. If you paint the area in the new colour you should think about a third for the sign (gold?! the "old" blue-bone or anything else)
Something like Regal Blue and Midnight Blue might work.
Oh I missed painting the signthingy black well that will also have the new color on it. And I think I will paint the sign in some metalic color.
Would Regal Blue + Blue Ink wash + Ultramarines Blue drybrush + Skull White highlight work?
What do you think?
I'm not sure about that.
Basically I do not really like Ultramarines Blue, not because of the Ultra Marines, but I think it's too light and the colour looks very flat.
I thought about something between midnight blue and regal blue or just midnight blue. Maybe the second one is the best.
The wash seems to be no bad Idea, but I'm not sure if you need it.
You should highlight it with a mixture of the colour you used and white or a lighter blue. Just white highlights will make these guys a bit boring again, I think.
Maybe you should try out the best idea you have and don't forget to post new pics!
Seems to stay a dialogue...
As I mentioned I would paint the sign on his chest in a different colour.
One Question: What's the purple blot on his spine?
Last but not least some more highlighting and a colour for the eyes would be great.
I was thinking about painting the sign in Chainmail, just to make it "shine".
The purple blot must be levtover blue ink.
The eyes will be red, Scab Red + Red Ink + Red Gore + Glos Varnish.
