    Detailed green stuffing

    Hi all:

Just curious about green stuff. I'm still getting used to it (gap filling, etc. for now) and I am intrigued by some of the AMAZING work I've seen people do with it. In particular (wish I had a link), I remember someone selling a greenstuffed SM dreadnought on Ebay. The thing had a few plates on the front with extraorinarily well-etched detail.

My question: I seem to remember reading somewhere that this kind of thing is done on computer and somehow transferred to a mold for greenstuff? Is this possible, or am I crazy?

    Just curious

Well it could be done. Most likely with resin, but you should be VERY rich to get the stuff needed!

But PLEASE prove me wrong! I so bad want it!

Easiest way I can see (and still pretty difficult) would be to make a mold from clay or something like you would for pouring plaster or resin, then press the GS in, let it dry, and take it out... take a lot of practice to get it right and a hell of a lot of green stuff though :hump:

roflmao sorry but i've always wanted to use that...

Scibor talks about how he uses molds that he designed on a computer for his mini's. Its a lot easier to get precise detail from a computer than to sculpt it by hand. He gets some heat for not doing it by hand as it takes a lot more skill to do it by hand than to use the computer, but I think his work is awesome.

Any way to answer your question, it is possible, but probably very expensive.

Yeah, ok, so the stuff that Scibor makes with the help of the pc are good, but look at the conversions themselves. Visible mold lines on plastic parts, large gaps left in places.
Also, follow this link to a mini that he converted by hand. http://www.coolminiornot.com/ebaycli....php?id=126010
Not nearly as impresive is it?

Working in detail with GS is not prolifically difficult, there are a number of techniques and tricks that help hugely, you dont need to be a superb artist, the main trick is patience and persiverance.

At the moment I am doing a full minsture sculpt for an inquistor.I think it is pretty good, and I am not by any stretch of the imagination, an artist.

If you have specific questions or areas then I can help, as for detailed iconography:

    1. I have a glass topped dinnig table, this makes the ideal work surface, simply ensure it is wet and I have a nice falt surface to work from

    2. someone, mentioning no names like Gareth, recomended the use of rubber gloves to stop the major problem of finger prints, he was right and it did, but personnaly I have become so used to working by touch, they inhibited any talent I may have

    3. Keep it wet, tools, surfaces etc, it will stop GS from sticking

This is probably my best results so far completed:

Does anyone know how much it would cost?

If you mean a machine for scribing, making moulds etc, the answer would probably be 2 newborns, in good health, sold for a hefty price on ebay.
That, or if you have a good clean liver, or know a few people who do, you may one day be able to afford that kind of tech.
God only knows how that Scibor got his hands on one. :shifty:
