I'm bouncing around all over the place trying to decide what to do with a bunch of my leftover Space Marine models. One idea I had was to simply do a missile launcher loaded list (I have 12 of the things) which would certainly work. However, I've also really wanted to do a fairly ornate army. So I started thinking about fancy armor and shields, which lead me to artificer armor and combat shields. Now, I'm looking at 2+/5+ saves, which is terminator armor (with a few other rule differences.) I started to think of possibly running an army that was decked out entirely this way, and simply using Deathwing rules to represent it. Simply playing terminator heavy is an option too... but it might get confusing to keep track of 'These PA models on small bases are PA, but -these- PA models on medium bases are terminators.'
Fun/clever idea or does it sound like it would be horribly, horribly confusing? I try to avoid asking these sorts of questions on forums, as really the only opinions that matter are those of the people I'm playing against, but I'd like to be able to use this army as something that I could take out to a game store or what have you... and so I'm pretty much dealing with the community in general rather than just my friends.
You play your game, I'll play mine.
I like it. the only problem is your special weapon choices, though itll looksick having a normal SM carrying around an assault cannon.
Oh yah have fun collecting all those combat sheilds.
"They shall all taste OBLIVION!,.....which tastes like Red Bull, which is disgusting."
Perfectly fine question for a forum. You could try to have them all Deathwing. As I understand it you are going to use powered armoured Marines as Terminators and you will be using the pure Terminator Deathwing army list. Well some people may agree to let you use it but there will be some who won't like it. I'm sorry there are no magic words I know that will pacify people. My Tyranids are getting a scorpion makeover but they will be still be Tyranids when I'm done, my Carnifex may have six legs but it's still clearly a Carnifex. It may confuse some people and if you do it I think there are some guidelines you should follow.
First. Everything is a Terminator no powered armoured Space marines allowed. This is because even if you point them out as "normal" Marines people will forget. This will make them make a obvious mistake and they will feel stupid and you may feel responsible, this will diminish everyones enjoyment of the game.
Second. You must have well painted and converted models to show how these Marines are special. Your opponents will quite rightly expect this.
Third. You must be fluff heavy. The Marines origins and why they all get an extra attack? Are they mutated under there, bionic, plain old psychotic or something else. Your models should probably also get names. Why do they like teleporting so much and where did they get all those powerfists?
Fourth. Be selective of wargear to try to make them seem less Terminator like this will make them seem more reasonable to your opponents.
Well I hope this helps you out.
I have actually seen a deathwing player take normal marines, bulk out the shinguards and add LRC assault cannons to them and call them terminators while the rest of his force was made up of actual terminators. Dumbest thing i have ever seen. Now I like this idea you have but in order to pull it off the power armor must be very distinguished and/or bulked out to represent terminator/artificer armor. Pre-heresy style armor coupled with the knight looking black templar helmets would be perfect. For combat shields you can use the fantasy chaos warrior shields and file off the chaos iconography and use the DA forgeworld icon packs. Godd look with this idea hope you post some pics!Originally Posted by Cypher_Redeemed
