DIE BUNNY, DIE BY MY HEAVY BOLTER
copy this into your sig to halt bunny's quest for world domination!!
its for my own space marine legion. however, i would like the tech marine to have a destinct adeptus mechanicus look(lots of robes, bionics, ect...)
You could start off with Techpriest Enginseer.
It's pretty much a ready-made Techmarine and will require only bare minimum of conversion work.
and it looks pretty cool
You could try this Techmarine from direct sales as a starting point for something a little different. It isn't to my knowledge avaliable in the shops.
I've come up against this problem myself, as I am also trying to make my own Mechanicus-themed Chapter. In fact, I'm using the Scions of Mars chapter trait to be able to take a Techmarine as my HQ.
While the current Techmarine is an awesomely cool model, its really hard to modify because of all the detail and that his body, legs, and head are one big solid chunk of pewter. The Direct sales techmarine is a good base for a character because he has no helmet, but still suffers from the same problems. Thier arms and backpack seem to be the only readily modifiable pieces to the model.
The Techpriest Enginseer, although is another way cool model, he just wont do for a Techmarine. He's just too small in comparison with even the normal marine models and although he does have some awesome-lookin armor goin on, its nowhere close to power armor. I wouldnt suggest him as a base for your conversion. However, he is a good source of inspiration and you might be able to steal some of his parts for the conversion. He has two types of power axes for you to choose from, an awesome backpack with servo-arm, and you might be able to carefully clip/saw off his head if you so desire.
If you want robes over power armor, look to the Dark Angels Veteran Sergeants. The Fabius Bile and Cypher models also have great potential for Mechanicus-related conversions.
Then, of course you have your older techmarines, Iron Father, Iron Priest, and Warcrafter models. There are plenty of bits to choose from.
I myself chose the Direct Sales Techmarine and did a weapon swap/re-pose with his arms and am working on modifying his servo-harness further.
Whatever you choose, I hope it comes out great. The techmarine is one of the Imperium's unsung heros and should be a part of more armies. Good luck!
To get a truely unique one without much converting, you could try the forge world one (titan techpriest). Very cool. Unfortunatly, I can't find a link, just search titan techpriest (or just techpriest for that matter) on forge world. It's a very nice model, and not oo expensive too.
Other than that...you could try the techmarine from the old SM command squad metal boxed set. Use green stuff to give him some robes, and maybe add some mechanical stuff.
Good luck, and may the spirit of the Omnissiah guide you.

I've seen somewhere, although i can't remember where, of someone who got a techie with full servo harness but instead of using the actual arms, cut the tools themselves off and used wire instead to give a more dynamic pose.
Kinda makes the harness look like a doctor octavious from spider man, pretty cool actually IMO cause you can bend the wire to have the tools any way you want.
SON'S OF TERRA......... Your defeat, its the emperor's will
You could make a Techmarine of your own from plastic parts. I had an idea a while back which may have worked, but I never tried it out myself so I cannot be sure. Basically, you need the servo-harness from the current Techmarine, or some of the older servo arm backpacks if you do not intend to use the servo-harness. You can modify this in any way you want to. For my Techmarine, I replaced the smaller servo arm with the IG techpriest servo arm modified to look like a massive drill (cut off the grabby bit of the techpriest arm and replace with a 3.5mm drill bit - massive drill).
The main body can be made from the pieces from some of the vehicle accessory sprues:
- The front of the body can be made from the Hatch Sprue Land Raider Sprue C Adeptus mechanicus torso (seen here).
- The back of the body can be made from the Chaos Vehicle Accessory Sprue rear torso (seen here - on the left hand side of the picture). All the tubes will look cool on a Techmarine.
The shoulder pads can be made from the Adeptus Mechanicus pads in the above SM vehicle sprue. You can choose the legs, head and arms to suit the model you want to make. Some simple green stuff work to add the details commonly associated with Techamarines (look at the current models - things like the battlement style rims on the shoulder pads) will be needed. You can add wires using guitar strings, and a few servo skulls wouldnt go amiss.
Thats the idea anyway. Hope it helps mate.
