Welcome to Librarium Online!
I want to put leds and wireless speakers into my lith. Anyone have any tips on how to do this, esp. how to have access into the monolith after its put together?
When I wired up my Monolith for flashing LEDs I left the front panel detachable. For the LEDs I bought a small kit from Jaycar (try Radioshack or any other electronics hobby store).
I keep threatening to post pics of the Monolith but never seem to have the time. Maybe later
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
For power supply you can use button cells (holders can be ordered from Radio Spares in Australia, whoever you like in the states (MPD are a USA manufacturer, I believe)), or standard LR4/6 batteries. AA and AAA holders can be obtained from **** Smith, Jaycar (I think) or Intertan (but not Intertan in Australia).
LED's are cheap and easy to get, again, **** Smith, Jaycar or Intertan. Intertan trades as Radioshack in the USA, I believe. Anyway, there are 4 important things about LED's:
1. LED's have to be wired correctly to work. This just means that if you put them in backwards, they don't glow; 'standard' LED's have a long and short lead so you can tell which is the cathode.
2. LED's come in many sizes and types. Don't mix and match; you can get 3mm, 5mm, and gullwing pretty easily and these are all suitable for modelling. 5mm is ideal, being the easiest to obtain and a nice size for vehicles.
3. LED's are all different brightnesses. Brighter LED's cost more. The problem is that different colours have different luminousity; you may want to stick to one colour. Hi-Brites are very bright, so be careful and check the luminousity/price when buying.
4. LED's are all rated for voltage; be aware of their rating and power them appropriately. Ideally wire them in parallel to minimise your cell voltage.
