Anyone else unhappy about having to buy TWO DIFFERENT IG special weapons models everytime you want a single special weapon of a single type? Furthermore, for a typical IG force, you would have at least ten special weapons assigned to your infantry squads. Moreover, these would often be of the SAME type. Short of mail order, there is no other way to amass special weapons (other than the flamer or grenade launcher) without having a lot of unused models. Also, these albeit ubiquitous, special weapons are relatively expensive to collect in large quantities.
Therefore, I have come up with a way to use the flamer from the Catachan Infantry Platoon Boxed Set to make cheap special weapons.
For a Plasmagun, just cut off the gas canister of the flamer and paint the pipe at the top in metal. Next, paint the front portion in yellow and the bottom portion in red.
For a Meltagun, cut off the gas canister and glue it to the side of the flamer (where the groove between the top and bottom sections of the flamer are), as far back as possible. Paint the front and the canister in metal, and paint the rest of the weapon in red.
Lastly, for a Grenade Launcher, cut off the canister and glue it to the front of the flamer (makes it look like a Gewehrgranate from World War 2). Paint the canister (grenade) green, and the rest of the weapon in a relevant colour.
At a glance, these really do look like the weapons that they are supposed to represent.
Is this good? Any suggestions?
For the Cadians Infantry Platoon Boxed Set, however, you get to have either a Grenade Launcher or a Flamer. Their weapons unfortunately, do not come with a gas canister, and also have a handlebar attached...so conversions would, in my opinion, be relatively more difficult
Sounds pretty cool but do you have any pics??

Unfortunately, no. I have neither a scanner nor a properly working digital camera. All the pictures that I try to take seem to come out as blobs of green.
