Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was just wondering, how would one paint a broken power weapon? would it just be black, as all the energy drained from it, or Boltgun Metal like a nomral sword? Thanks guys.
From the 40k literature regarding the Astartes that I've read, in most cases power weapons look like normal weapons, and are drawn and 'switched on' for combat, giving them the green/blue or whatever color glow it is. So, I would say a broken one would just fail to switch on, and be of normal boltgun metal color.

broken in half or broken as in damaged into complete power drain? Most power weapons are traditionally painted with either a blueish or greenish hue (of humming energy, blah, blah, blah), so why not (if modeling a sword broken in half) keep most of it black or boltgun, with very light hinting of blue or green near the hilt - surely there is some reminiscent of power remaining in the capasitors slowly draining away into nothingness. OR if you can modle sparks discharging, that might prove to be a very cool effect as well. Good luck! Post pics!

One thing you might consider doing in addition to Maveriks's good idea is to mix some grey in with the boltgun metal, to give the blade a more flat, lifeless feel. This would really help contrast against the dwindling 'power field'

Ooh, good ideas all of you, I'll take them into consideration when painting my "desperate guy", a.k.a. A Black Legion Marine wileding a Power Sword with about a 5th of fit cut off, and a bolter. Kinda gives him a feel like "If I'm going down you're coming with me!"
Once again, thanks. Now is the time for sleep.
