Well I run Slayer Brotherhood forum and am an active participant at Bugman's Brewery as well. Well with the end of the Storm of Chaos being tourny legal I am stripping and converting my slayers into standard dwarves but with a slayer theme. So most of my slayers will get turned into warriors or long beards. Additionally there will be some thunderers. This will be used as a entry into our Slayer Clan Paint Competition in September... giving away a free Games Day 2006 figure to the lucky winner too. It sucks I have 4 of them so I am giving 3 away.
Here is the 1st version of the conversion:
this shot was taken inside with a bad camera. So please no comments about the pictures... basically the work has a rat ogre skull as a helmet and a skaven skull as a left shoulder pad.
Some other constructive comments from a different site were to add more to it, especially a skaven tail. So that led to the second version below which was taken outside to be a little bit better on the photo's
This version has added the skaven tale to the axe handle, skaven ribs as the left shoulder guard, a rat skull to the top of the axe, and a spine to the rat Ogre Skull used as a helmet. Additionally there was some comments to make the base scenic, well I still need to get it all painted before I try to base it but I am doing a milliput press for another rat ogre skull and another for a shield. So hopefully I can get some GSed shields and skulls of it for a 25 dwarf warrior unit, a 18 dwarf long beard unit, and a 10 dwarf strong thunderer unit.
If that works out I will float a picture of the new shields. If it doesn't no picture.
Finally I will post the army list in the dwarf section shortly.
I like them. The skaven skulls are great, but the more original spine, ribs and tail on the second group of pictures are even better. It may take a while to get an army of these guys done but I think the end result will be more than worth it.
The only sugestion I can make at the moment is regarding the bases. It might be a good idea to get some plastic skaven and model them onto bases so they look like they have been beheaded (if you can find room on the small square bases). It might also be a nice touch to have rats tails hanging from the warriors' belts as a form of trophy taken from fallen enemies in the past.
Good work so far mate, keep us updated!
Yep that is the current consesus on the forums is that the bases need to be spiced up. I'll get to them but I never do bases until an entire unit is done. Now at this rate I might need to buy a box of clan or slave rats just to use the bits to spruce things up a bit.
Thanks for the compliments and I will be posting another later on today. Hopefully with my new shield design using a blank for rapid production of my "anvil" shaped shields. We'll see if it worked as well as I hope it does.
Well here is a draft version of warrior's #2 shield made from a plasticard mould. Attrocious pictures taken inside but it has rivets and a raised center section for the rest of the skull or bone motif to be sculped onto later. Additionally this one is sporting a ckaven tail on the back side. I will work on him more and spiff him up a bit as I progress and make more shields.
Please the pictures are a dead horse so ... nuff said.
I can just make out the shield rivets and other detail. Think it looks good; very dwarven. They should look great with a little more detail on the front.
Look forward to seeing more pictures of them mate.
Got my 3rd shield on and done.. this time on a traditional GW slayer... 4th shield making... Alright so I changed it up on #3: I did a skeletal arm on his shield which you can see a little bit fuzzy below... again indoor picture but there are a little clearer. I guess I really need to prime and paint these to show them off a bit and my crudy painting skills.
but this one was challenging. 5 fingers, the wrist bones and 3 arm bones... uggh!. He also has two shield straps in his shield.
The group shot shows off some of the rivets on the naked shield. I need to do a skull or some skaven weapons on it I guess. Soon I might try a skinned skaven pelt over a shield with fingers and tail included... maybe go native american and have him wearing the pelt...
Comments... not about the bad pic... trust me I got it already.. 6 MP camera on christmas wish list from the wife... or an X-Box 360...
