Hey that is not too bad to start with, my suggestion to you would be to try and bring out some of the definition of the model, ie highlight and shading I suppose are the technical arty farty terms for it.

These were very quick to paint and have come out very well and this style can be applied to almost any scheme as can be seen in the broodlord and carnifexes.
I will add some pics of my Hive Tyrants tonite now they are fixed. But it really depends on what exactly you are looking for.

I'm not an expert painter by any stretch of the imagination, but it looks like your paint is really thick. Try thinning it down or not putting on so many coats.
