I have just finished re-reading The Guns of Tanith and was inspired to do a blood pact army led by Saggitar Slaith. However I need suggestions on what to use for the masks that will not cost too much.
I also have an idea for a model of Sagittar Slaith himself based on the Inquisitor Coteaz model with a suitibly chaotic sword and distended ears with lots of earrings made of greenstuff. Does anyone else have any better ideas.
I am slightly against using the Coteaz model. The model is too widely recognised, and even when converting it people will first see Coteaz in it, not your Sagitar Slaith.
Is it not possible to create your own chaotic model from some older blisters and plastic bits, then green stuffing it?
My first suggestion if you intend to do an army like this is the get the Sabbat Crusade info book from black library (click me!). It will be quite useful to you.
For the Blood Pact Masks, I would suggest green stuff. It might take a few goes to get right, but once you have mastered it you will be able to make loads of masks for very little cash. Also, using this method, you can sculpt the masks exactly how you want them to look. If you don't like using green stuff, then the Pit fighter witch elf head on this sprue could work quite well (for a better look at it click here - look at the guy on the right of the front row with a sword in his hand). This option may end up costing alot though.
For some good ideas (and pictures!) of how to model some Blood Pact, follow this link:
I think the use of the Coteaz model for Sagitar Slaith will work quite well. You would need to do a fair bit of conversion to make the model look more chaotic, but that is what themed armies are all about. A head swap (or GS sculpting) is pretty mandatory, as is changing his weaponry. There are loads of Chaos-swords available through GW, or you could even sculpt some GS onto a plain sword to give it that personal touch. You would need to pay plenty of attention to the armour; adding things like grizly trophies and Chaos symbols etc. Some thoughts:
Note that it has been ages since I read Guns of Tanith, so I can't remember how Slaith was described. As such, if anything I suggest below doesn't fit, please ignore it.
1.Add those arrows you see on Choas armour to Coteaz's armour (look at this guy's chest plate and shoulders for examples). This can be done really easily with GS.
2.The Termie-honous style pendant around his neck could be ground off and replaced with a Wheel of Chaos or some other Chaos symbol.
3.The Eagle resting on his arm could be changed to small Daemon. Alternatively you could sculpt Chaos-flames around this arm, making it look like he is casting some sort of Chaos power/has a mutation etc. Or you could simply change this arm so that it holds a weapon, or is pointing (i.e. direct the Blood Pact forces).
4.His Cloak should be made to look a little more tattered - like the Cloaks the the WHFB Chaos Warriors wear. You could also hang some trophies (skulls/heads etc) from the cape.
5.Spikes. Spikey armour looks cool on Chaos Models
6.Make sure you put him on a suitably pimped-up base. Cover it in the bodies of slain foes (Some of Gaunts Ghosts might be cool here) or other Chaotic detail.
Hopefully this has helped you mate, good luck with the Blood Pact. Post pics when the army is finished?
