    Painting liquids in glass

I want some help painting coloured liquids in glass.
I am getting mixed results as I have tried for an ultra realistic look, which does not work well with the representative style of miniature painting.

Can someone give me advice as to how they achieve the look of a transparent glass container with a liquid inside!

    Cheers in advance

Honestly this is an area that I haven't really traveled in.

I have seen some really good effects done that work well. Here is one good example:

My thoughts would be to keep the liquid dark at its top and paint the glass with hints of the color showing behind it. In the examples case - nothing was behind it so it looks to be painted with subtle shades of blue/grey...

    Cheers,

So, I think the key concept to keep in mind is that liquids will try to stay flat and horozontal to the ground(or gravatational force) at all times. unless the character is swinging around, the liquid will always be horozontal. And, the container will take on what ever color is in the environment. Its a lot like NMM concept.

One thing you might want to include is a little bit of light reflection.

Understandably, your army doesn't always fight where there is ample lighting, but they do most of the time.

Small dot of white paint on the top of the liquid, then a transparent streak of white on the side of the glass to represent the beam going through the liquid.

Thanks for the help guys, though I finished already and came up with some of the same ideas.
    So here's how it went.
Sorry about the dodgy pictures, I couldn't find the 5 meg camera and had to use the 2 meg wonder on my phone!!

That mini looks great, but where is the aforementioned liquid in a glass? I don't see it.
